Château de la Chèvre d'Or – golden goat
The legend that surrounds Château de la Chèvre d'Or (Castle of the golden goat) about an old woman, her herd of goats and a hidden treasure might be just a legend, but it is certainly not a legend that the property today is among the finest luxury hotels in the world, with a phenomenal fine dining restaurant.
Château de la Chèvre d'Or is one of the few places in the world that truly is unique in so many ways and that has walked its own path over the years without looking too much at what everyone else is doing. The hotel is spread around the Eze Village with its personally designed rooms and suites, but the fine dining room stays the same in the main building on the second floor.
If there was a competition which restaurant offers the most amazing view in the world, Château de la Chèvre d'Or would probably have won because the panorama views you have over major parts of the Côte d’Azur is nothing but breathtaking. You can just sit and look at the view for hours and when the sun goes down you can have a look at the beautiful paintings by Jean Philippe Desplanques in the dining room while you have your dinner with some of the best ingredients available. Most of the ingredients come from France like the oysters from Brittany and the pigeons from Bresse. The different qualities of caviars all come from Château de la Chèvre d'Or’s own selection and brand.
You will have traditional haute cuisine, but with welcomed additional elements. Most of the key staff at Château de la Chèvre d'Or has worked at the property for many years, like the excellent Head Sommelier Philippe Magne and Sommelier Claude Derrien who have worked at the restaurant for more than two decades.
Ronan Kervarrec joined the restaurant in 2010 and became the Executive Chef in 2013. He is a true master chef and contributes with world class cooking and impeccable management of the kitchen. The whole team at Château de la Chèvre d'Or makes a tremendous effort to make the fine dining restaurant one of the very best in the world, and another good example of that is Pastry Chef Julien Dugourd who makes some of the most beautiful and amazing dessert creations available.
There is so much to say about Château de la Chèvre d'Or, but it is impossible to write about the restaurant without mentioning the extraordinary wine cellars scattered around the property with around 29,000 bottles of the best fine wines anywhere. The sommeliers truly are privileged for being able to work with such an outstanding quality and the prices offered of the wines are reasonable as well, without any excessive prices as are quite common at the French Riviera, in addition fine wine and top champagne can be ordered by the glass as well.
Château de la Chèvre d'Or is a must for all food lovers and for everyone looking for a fantastic restaurant experience with impeccable service and cuisine of absolute top class. And maybe if you are really lucky you will find the hidden treasure of the golden goat as well.
