Alain Ducasse Au Plaza Athénée – basics
In September 2010 just in time for the Alain Ducasse Au Plaza Athénée’s tenth anniversary did Alain Ducasse reinvent the whole concept of the restaurant. Instead of courses with several ingredients straggling in different taste directions a new idea was born based on “take it away”. Lesser became more when most of the ingredients in each course were taken away and left were only two or three main ingredients.
It was a brilliant, but daring move to completely change the menu from dishes with so much taste and impression going on so it could become too much and for many to not even understand and appreciate to what is offered today with balanced flavours between sweet, bitter and acidity.
It might sound simple when you read the menu before your dinner – just some lobster with potatoes or langoustine with caviar, but the execution of each dish is just as perfect as it can possibly be. We will always endeavour finding the best flavour experiences available in the world and Alain Ducasse Au Plaza Athénée offers something that will take your taste buds to the best possible place available anywhere.
The way Alain Ducasse’s team presents its food at Alain Ducasse Au Plaza Athénée makes it look like the most natural thing in the world. No big surprises or extraordinary inventions and no molecular gastronomy in sight anywhere. Still the gastronomic experience at Alain Ducasse Au Plaza Athénée is among the very best available today. Head Chef Christophe Saintagne performs an impeccable job in the kitchen and his team makes some of the best food in the world today.
The dining room is managed by one of the best Restaurant Managers on the planet, Denis Courtiade, with numerous awards as well. There is nothing that Denis Courtiade does not know about hospitality and he performs an absolute perfect service in the dining room. A perfect restaurant team is not complete without an outstanding sommelier and Chef Sommelier Laurent Roucayrol does not disappoint anyone with his spot on wine matches.
Nearly everything is perfect when it comes to the food and service and the only thing that stops Alain Ducasse Au Plaza Athénée from reaching an even higher top score at wbpstars.com is its price tag that might be difficult for many to cope with. You can choose what to have in your tasting menu, but it will still set you back €360 for one person and you need wine pairing to that. The restaurant uses updated menus on a daily basis and the dishes on the à la carte menu will cost you between €80 – 175 per dish. Alain Ducasse Au Plaza Athénée is one of the most expensive restaurants in the world.
It is easy to write a whole book about a restaurant like the fantastic Alain Ducasse Au Plaza Athénée, but that is not necessary. A simple word will be enough in this case – amazing!
