La Bourgogne – the best of Burgundy
Chef Patron Jean-Paul Bondoux brought all his passion for his home-country France to his new home in South America which became his new passion. Bondoux managed to brilliantly execute what so many have tried without success – to bring the best from his home-country and re-create the best of it combined with the finest from the new country.
Jean-Paul Bondoux was born in 1948 in the town of Luzy located in the Burgundy region of France. The Chef was only 13 years old when he started to cook and he was only 18 when he had his first appointment as a Chef in Paris. Bondoux quickly learnt all the skills necessary to become a great chef and he soon noticed that he had a natural talent for the work in the kitchen. 1979 was the year when he moved to Uruguay and he fell in love with the beauty of Punta del Este. Bondoux worked for the El Palmar restaurant where he soon became a success which gave him the confidence and possibility to open his own La Bourgogne restaurant which he still runs today. Jean-Paul Bondoux became more and more successful and he owns eleven restaurants today together with an organic farm, a bakery and delicacy stores among others.
Chef Patron Jean-Paul Bondoux has always had an enormous passion for the finest produce and as a result of that he has organic farms like La Quinta and Le Potager de la Bourgogne which produce a lot of his ingredients. You can expect to have many amazing ingredients on your plate from La Quinta, like super fresh and delicious tomatoes, garlic, thyme, bay leaves, sage and rosemary to just mention some of them. In addition the Chef Patron also produces his own bread, butter and wine. Bondoux’ attention to the very best produce really makes a difference and that combined with his excellent cooking results in one of the best experiences you can have in South America.
You are sitting in a big lush garden during your meal at La Bourgogne in Punta del Este which suits perfect to the cuisine you have. Much of the service will remind you of the best restaurants in France and the cuisine can easily compete with any top restaurant around the world. The tasting menu is highly recommended, but you will also have many options to choose from à la carte, like the black hake in two services or the pork “from head to toe”. You will be satisfied whatever you choose from the menu, but we can highly recommend you to try the amazing Uruguayan sturgeon caviar. Just ask for it and the waiters will be happy to recommend a dish with it or just the caviar together with a glass of champagne.
La Bourgogne in Punta del Este is a must reservation for all food lovers. The combination of the best from the Burgundy region and Uruguay makes it a winner.
