L’Epuisette – seafood ocean view
L’Epuisette is beautifully situated on top of a rock in the port “Vallon des Auffes”, which is located in the southern part of Marseille. The dining room is almost on the water, and with lobster storage in the basement it is a great place to enjoy seafood. Here L’Epuisette has been serving diners both food and a magnificent view for over 55 years.
Guillaume Sourrieu has been Head Chef at L’Epuisette since 1999. Before joining L’Epuisette he worked at places such as Relais Bernard Loiseau, Trois Gros, L'Auberge du Père Bise and Le Petit Nice. His focus is on the produce in season. A majority comes directly from fishermen from the port “Vallon des Auffes”. The produce is accentuated with vegetables and brought together with a sauce. The tastes are well balanced and elegant and it is a menu which will leave you pleased, but not surprised. For those interested you can also have classic Marseille dishes as the Bouillabaisse, but it is the other menu that is more interesting. Not surprisingly, as always in France you have a great cheese tray and a tasteful dessert menu.
There is a good selection of wines, around 500 references, mostly French, with some interesting local labels as well. It his headed by Head Sommelier Bruno Dukan who together with Restaurant Manager Christophe Carreau run a smooth and professional service.
The interior is full of light and it is tastefully done so that the ocean view is the centrepiece. If you are in Marseille and want to have a tasteful pleasant evening with a wonderful sea view with the beautiful Frioul Islands in the background, then l’Epuisette will deliver.
