Lotus of Siam – all about the food
Lotus of Siam is one of the best examples in North America that it is not needed to have a lavish dining room, silver cutlery or any luxury what so ever as long as the restaurant offers excellent food which speaks for itself.
The location far off the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada is one of the least expected places to find a restaurant with such delicious Thai cuisine as Lotus of Siam. You will find the restaurant next to a huge parking lot of a shopping mall. Forget about dressing fancy, even if you are welcome no matter how you are dressed, just bring a good mood for some excellent food. It would probably have helped the restaurant to move to a better location and with some more fancy interior, but the fact is that the dining room is almost always fully booked, both for lunch and for dinner and since the restaurant was expanded it is nothing less than impressive and an achievement to manage to lure hordes of food lovers away from all the many restaurants at The Strip.
Saipin Chutima is the Chef and owner and runs the restaurant together with her husband Suchay, their two daughters and their two adoptive sons. Saipin was only 17 years old when she met her husband and he was 17 as well when they met at Suchay’s grandmother’s restaurant. Together they share an exciting story which has resulted in one of the best Thai restaurants in the world. Most Thai women have to learn how to cook at young age and Saipin was no exception when she was taught by her grandmother Tha how to cook Thai cuisine when she was only five years old. Initially, Saipin was not interesting in working in any kitchen, but later on her husband’s grandmother accepted her apprenticeship and Chef Chutima started to like cooking for people more and more. Life has not always been easy to the Chutima family. Suchay had to leave Thailand for the United States which forced him and his wife to live apart for seven years before they were reunited in California. In 1994 they opened their own Thai cuisine restaurant in Norwalk, California, called Renu Nakorn, which soon became a success. In Thailand the women usually are the chefs so when Saipin saw a greater potential in Las Vegas she sold Renu Nakorn for the opening of Lotus of Siam.
Chef Saipin Chutima is specialized in northern Thai cuisine which she cooks amongst the very best in the world, but you can order in food with origin from all over Thailand as well. New dishes are created on a regular basis so do not expect the same over and over again which might be the case at some lesser fine Thai restaurants. Lotus of Siam is a restaurant which focuses on wbpstars.com’s most important criteria – the flavours, the textures, the ingredients and the actual taste of the cuisine and therefore it is a perfect candidate to be represented amongst the best restaurants in the world. Few other restaurants can match Lotus of Siam when it comes to Thai cuisine.
