Ristorante La Barrique – fine italian
Ristorante La Barrique is owned and run by Chef Patron Stefano Gallo. It is not the easiest to find, it is inconspicuous from the outside and not in the most central part of Turin, but it is well worth the effort when you enter.
It is a small restaurant with a pleasant interior and a professional and friendly service. The menu is an interesting mix with some traditional Italian and specifically Piedmontese dishes, but also several well executed contemporary Italian dishes.
So you can have some of the best agnolotti you’ll ever taste or a more current vitello with mustard ice cream. All dishes are well balanced and delicious. You understand that Stefano Gallo is an experienced chef. He started the restaurant in 1999 and had before that already experience from among others Enoteca Pinchiorri and Le Louis XV of Alain Ducasse.
The food is personal, with dishes created on the trail of the Piedmontese tradition without forgetting ingredients, colours and scents of other Italian regions. The focus is on creativity in taste and texture but based on sourcing great produce. So the polenta will be from a specific mill with a mix of different ground grains, making both taste and mouthfeel great.
The wine list is of course predominantly Italian and Piedmontese, and there is a very good and interesting wine matching for the different menus. There is even a special menu made for those under 25 years, it is only four courses and includes two matching wines. A great idea for training future fine diners. A nice addition to the menu is mentioning of all dishes, which are gluten-free. And do not miss the desserts, there are several with some velvety Italian ice cream.
Italian food is great as it is and fine dining versions of it can sometimes be over the top and lose its perspective. At La Barrique you find the opposite, Italian fine dining which is both interesting and delicious and well worth a visit if in Turin.
