The Eight – wealth
The Eight is located on the second floor of Grand Lisboa Hotel in Macau and is one of 15 restaurants of The Lisboa Hotels Complex. There are several top dining venues in Macau, but The Eight is certainly one of the very best if you are looking for Chinese cuisine.
The awarded Hong Kong designer Alan Chan created one of the most impressive dining rooms ever made for a Chinese restaurant and it can easily compete with any dining room on a top international level. His creativity is almost over the top and he has based the foundation of his concept on the traditional Chinese elements of the number eight and the goldfish which represent wealth and energy.
The Executive Chef, Chinese Kitchen, Cheung Chi Shing is a master when it comes to the Cantonese and Huaiyang cuisines. He stays faithful to the traditional base of them, but he makes it more interesting by infusing them and adding a clear contemporary touch to his cooking style.
The menu is extensive as is often the case at Chinese restaurants, but run wild and simply choose randomly a bunch of dishes and you can not go wrong unless you already are a connoisseur and knows exactly what you like to have. The braised supreme shark’s fin soup in brown sauce is a classic and the same goes for the steamed crab claw with ginger and Chinese yellow wine, they come with the Chef’s distinct touch and they taste delicious. Other selections you should consider are the deep-fried Macau sole with spicy salt, the stir-fried lobster with egg, minced pork and black bean, the grilled shrimp mousse on a stick of sugar cane and the steamed rice flour roll with shrimp spring roll to mention just a few of the many dishes to choose from. At lunch time you can also choose between selections of 50 kinds of dim sum so there are always plenty of delicacies at display.
There is a great selection of prestigious teas like the 49 years old vintage Pu Er Tea, the Yun Nan Imperial grade Pu Er Tea and the Supreme An Xi Tie Guan Yin to just mention some of them. All the restaurants of the Lisboa Hotels Complex share one of the world’s most amazing wine cellars containing over 8,200 labels and many thousands of the best bottles on the planet. The wine cellar is one of the best in the world and looks more like a giant warehouse than a traditional wine cellar. You will find what you are looking for as long as you are prepared to pay for it.
The Eight is an essential reservation if you are looking for one of the best Chinese restaurants with Cantonese and Huaiyang cuisines in the world.
