Wing Lei – casino lavish
Wing Lei is located at the ground floor of the luxurious casino hotel Wynn Macau. No expenses are spared in the lavish dining room and Wing Lei is a place to visit for over the top Cantonese Chinese cuisine dining.
All the classics from the traditional Cantonese kitchen will be found on the menu like abalone, shark’s fin and dim sum to just mention some, but you will also notice an obvious contemporary thinking with the sizes of the dishes, and the presentations and seasoning of the dishes are adopted for today’s guests. You will also find elements of Western cuisine and cooking techniques, but most of the cooking has a clear origin in the Cantonese Chinese.
Executive Chef Peter Chan is the head of a team of 30 chefs and he has many years of experience. Chef Chan was born in Hong Kong and started his culinary career in his uncle’s kitchen. That was more than 30 years ago and since then he has had numerous key positions like Chef de Cuisine for Grand Hyatt Hotel, Taiwan, Formosa Hotel, Taichung and Ambassador Hotel. Peter Chan’s extensive experience includes jobs at the Evergreen Laurel Hotel, the Ocean City Restaurant and the Good World Restaurant as well.
It is mandatory to have an experienced Executive Chef like Peter Chan to have a restaurant of Wing Lei’s size and to maintain its top quality awareness of both the service and the cuisine. There are 134 seats in the dining room and an additional 52 seats in the five private dining rooms so it is certainly not a small restaurant. The main dining room is dominated by a big flying crystal dragon which is composed of 90,000 Swarovski crystals and individually blown glass elements. The dragon is an important symbol which stands for activity, luck and happiness. The colour theme is mainly in red and all you expect from a top lavish Cantonese restaurant is on site.
Wing Lei is a bit soulless in its execution and might not feel genuine for some with its typically luxury hotel style of extravagance, not so personal and sheer size, but the food is delicious and the service is impeccable so if you have the right expectations and know what you will have your meal will be a very pleasant one, indeed.
