Location & Hotel

Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory in the Eastern Caribbean, offers a captivating journey from the very moment you begin your travels. We arrived via Sint Maarten, where a seamless transition from the airport to a nearby port house allowed for quick immigration procedures. Our arrival at night added an air of mystery, as we boarded a brightly lit speedboat that transitioned into darkness once we set off. Gliding through the pitch-black waters for 25 minutes was a surreal experience. Upon reaching Anguilla’s port, the swift immigration process was followed by a short 15-minute drive to our resort. At the security checkpoint of the hotel, we were greeted warmly, offering the first glimpse of the exceptional service we would come to cherish during our stay.

The journey to the resort echoed its origins. In 1984, Linda and Charles Hickox, captivated by the untouched beauty of Maundays Bay during a boat trip around Anguilla, envisioned something extraordinary. They began with a restaurant named Pimms and later expanded to establish Cap Juluca, inspired by the rainbow spirit of the Arawak people, an indigenous tribe deeply connected to nature and the first habitants of the bay. Over the years, the resort gained acclaim as a favorite among the jet set. In 2017, Belmond acquired Cap Juluca, unveiling a meticulously renovated property in 2018 following a 121 million dollar redesign.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed into the open-air lobby with a refreshing cocktail. The check-in process was remarkably smooth, handled by friendly and courteous staff who promptly escorted us to our villa by golf cart. Exhausted from our journey, we settled in to recover from our ten-hour flight from Europe. The next morning revealed the true splendor of Cap Juluca. As dawn broke, we stepped onto Maundays Bay, renowned as one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches. The pristine white sands and the striking azure waters in every imaginable shade of blue were mesmerizing. A golf cart ride took us to the Main House, where the dramatic high-domed ceiling framed the breathtaking views. Designed by the esteemed architects at HKS and adorned by Rottet Studio, the Main House epitomizes timeless elegance. Lush hanging botanicals, a shaded Moroccan-style courtyard with a striking green-tiled pool, and thoughtfully curated artifacts gave the space the intimate charm of a private residence filled with treasures from world travels. From the Main House, the property’s layout unfolded gracefully. To the left were restaurants Cip’s and Pimms, while the villas stretched along the right-hand side, seamlessly blending into the landscape.

The Greco-Moorish architecture of the resort, characterized by white, domed Moroccan-style villas, embraced the beach in perfect harmony. The 108 newly designed rooms and suites within these villas embodied luxurious, laid-back island living. Throughout our stay, serenity and tranquility defined the experience. Morning walks along the beach revealed an almost private sanctuary, with only the sound of waves accompanying us.

Even during the day, the resort never felt crowded. Guests seemed to vanish into the long stretch of beach or the resort’s various spaces, leaving us to bask in solitude, exactly that solitude you are looking for if you are spending a few nights in a unique and luxurious place like Cap Juluca, a Belmond Hotel. The blend of natural beauty, impeccable design, and unparalleled service creates an atmosphere of timeless glamour and understated luxury, making it a true Caribbean gem.

Rooms & Suites

Each residence is just a few steps from the beach, with less than a minute’s walk separating you from the pristine shore. While the villas are situated at varying distances from the main house, the higher the villa number, the farther the distance, you will never feel disconnected. Frequent golf cart shuttles and beach-cruiser-style bicycles ensure you can explore the resort with ease. The hotel features 108 newly appointed rooms, suites, and villas, each offering direct access to a stunning white sandy bay. These accommodations are thoughtfully designed with expansive private verandas and interiors that embrace the relaxed charm of island living. With a layered, comfortable aesthetic, the spaces invite guests to unwind and enjoy their stay in total tranquility.

Our villa room, located on the second floor of a villa, was a spacious sanctuary. Upon entering, we found ample wardrobes to the right and a vast bathroom to the left. The huge bathroom was a standout, featuring a walk-in shower, a separate bathtub, and a long double-sink counter. The bedroom was equally impressive, with a plush, comfortable bed positioned opposite a cozy sofa and coffee table, all oriented to face the breathtaking view through the large window. Beyond the window, a private balcony overlooked lush greenery and the dazzling beach, offering an unforgettable vista. A staircase from the balcony led to a private terrace equipped with loungers, parasols, and a spectacular ocean view. The room’s thoughtful design extended to its functional details, such as discreetly integrated charging ports in the bedside tables, ensuring both convenience and style. Modern amenities included a Nespresso machine, a private bar, a wireless 55” Smart TV, and options for an Xbox, PlayStation, or printer upon request. Guests also enjoy premium features like twice-daily housekeeping, 24-hour in-room dining, luxurious toiletries, and in-room spa services. What truly elevates the experience is the personalized 24-hour villa host service. From arranging excursions to fulfilling the smallest requests, the dedicated villa hosts ensure every moment of your stay is seamless and memorable. The cool, stylish interiors provide the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable dining experience. A visit to the restaurant is an invitation to savor authentic Caribbean flavors and Anguillan delicacies in an atmosphere of relaxed elegance. Our table, set right by the sea, offered a front-row seat to the enchanting waves, their rhythmic dance under the night sky adding a touch of magic to the evening. We began with a delightful appetizer of soft-shell crab, followed by a main course of Anguillan lobster poached in fragrant lemongrass butter. To end on a sweet note, we indulged in a baba infused with locally crafted Pyrat rum. Each dish was truly delectable, with flavors as captivating as the setting itself, a truly delicious meal in a mesmerizing ambiance.

• Experience a taste of Italy with Cip’s by Cipriani, where the charm of the world-renowned CIP’s Club in Hotel Cipriani, a Belmond Hotel in Venice, meets the relaxed ambiance of tropical elegance. Start your day with a delightful breakfast or indulge in a casual Italian dinner featuring comfort food at its finest. The menu is crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients, offering irresistible risottos, vibrant salads, handcrafted pastas, and exquisite carpaccio dishes. Set in a visually striking space, the restaurant’s design draws inspiration from its enchanting surroundings. The venue features a stylish bar and offers the flexibility of indoor seating or dining poolside by a beautifully lit pool, especially enchanting at night. We began our evening with a perfectly crafted Pisco Sour, setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience. Our appetizer, a refreshing and flavorful ceviche, showcased the culinary artistry of the kitchen. For the main course, we savored lomo saltado, a quintessential Peruvian classic, prepared to perfection. Whether you are looking for a laid-back evening or a touch of culinary adventure, Uchu delivers a perfect experience.
• The Cap Shack is offering a laid-back yet sophisticated beachside experience. Nestled right on the sand, this charming spot is hand-built with timber and ropes, exuding an effortlessly chic, island-inspired vibe. The menu features creatively mixed rum punches, fresh catch-of-the-day specials, and mouthwatering BBQ beach tapas. We indulged in a perfectly grilled hamburger while overlooking the serene beach, a simple yet unforgettable moment that captured the spirit of The Cap Shack. A visit here is a celebration of relaxed elegance and island charm.
