Location & Hotel
Cape Town, known as the “Mother City”,” is celebrated for its rich history, diverse culture and breathtaking landscapes. Framed by the dramatic silhouette of Table Mountain, the city offers a blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty that attracts visitors from all over the world. From the colourful Bo-Kaap district to the bustling markets and art galleries, Cape Town reflects a vibrant mix of tradition and modernity. The city is also a gateway to unforgettable experiences, from coastal cruises along Chapman’s Peak to wine tasting in the famous Cape Winelands. With its mild climate and an abundance of outdoor activities, Cape Town is an ideal destination for relaxation and exploration.
Dock House Boutique Hotel enjoys a prime location right above Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, an area known for shopping, dining and entertainment. Situated on a small hill in a quieter part of the waterfront, it offers a relaxing retreat yet is only steps away from the bustling centre of Cape Town. Overlooking the V&A Waterfront and with partial views on the famous Table Mountain, the hotel offers guests both peace and comfort and is an excellent base for exploring the city’s cultural and natural landmarks.
Set in a beautifully restored 19th-century building that once served as the Harbour Master’s private residence, Dock House blends Victorian charm with modern elegance. This five-star hotel merges timeless luxury with contemporary comforts, appealing to travellers who value both exclusivity and convenience. Chandeliers and ornate ceiling cornices hint at the property’s historic roots as the harbour engineer’s residence in the 1800s. With convenient access to popular destinations like Robben Island, the Cape Winelands, and Camps Bay, the hotel caters to guests in search of both adventure and relaxation.
Rooms & Suites
Dock House Boutique Hotel features five elegantly appointed rooms and one spacious suite, each designed to offer both luxury and comfort. For those seeking complete privacy, the entire hotel can be reserved for exclusive use.
- Luxury Rooms: Each of the five luxury rooms spans between 45 and 60 square metres, providing ample space for relaxation. These rooms feature sophisticated décor with elegant furnishings and modern amenities such as a flat-screen TV, minibar, and an en-suite bathroom with both a bath and shower. Victorian-style furnishings and rich fabrics contribute to an atmosphere of refinement and comfort.
- Suite: The 70-square-metre luxury suite brings a touch of glamour, featuring a bedroom that opens onto a private courtyard garden. Decorated with opulent touches like plush fabrics, antique-style furnishings, and elegant lighting, this suite offers a refined and tranquil setting for guests.
Each room type features high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows which create a bright, inviting ambiance, while details such as custom artwork and chandeliers add character. Depending on the room’s location, guests can enjoy views of V&A waterfront, the gardens, the pool, or Table Mountain.
We stayed in one of the Luxury Rooms and appreciated the Victorian aesthetics paired with luxurious accents. A standout feature of the room was the spacious terrace, offering views of the hotel’s garden, swimming pool, and the lively V&A Waterfront. However, it’s worth noting that the Waterfront becomes quite busy on weekends, with music often continuing late into the night. This can be heard from the hotel, so light sleepers may find earplugs helpful.
Gastronomy
Dock House Boutique Hotel own intimate dining room serves breakfast, offering a selection of fresh pastries, cheese and charcuterie, seasonal fruit, and an à la carte menu – the perfect start to a day of exploring Cape Town. Guests staying on a bed-and-breakfast basis can also enjoy breakfast at any of the nearby Newmark Hotels on the Waterfront at no additional charge. Additionally, these sister properties boast some great restaurants, including the newly opened Terrarium at the Queen Victoria Hotel.
At Terrarium, led by head chef Chris Erasmus, diners experience a blend of traditional fine dining with a fresh, nature-inspired approach. Described as “a window to nature”, the restaurant highlights bold, seasonal flavours sourced from local farms and gardens. Guests can expect imaginative dishes such as a tomato and peach atchar starter with whey vinaigrette and chilli oil, or butter-roasted sweetbreads with forest ceps, lactic blueberry glaze, and weeds. Terrarium offers two 8-course tasting menus: the Fauna menu, featuring seafood and meat, and the Flora menu, a creative vegetarian experience.
