Location & Hotel
La Residence is situated near the heart of Franschhoek, a charming town renowned for its award-winning wine estates and rich history. Just 60 minutes from Cape Town, it serves as an ideal base for exploring the surrounding vineyards and enjoying the local culinary scene, which is celebrated for its innovative restaurants and artisanal markets. Often referred to as the “Food and Wine Capital of South Africa,” Franschhoek is steeped in Huguenot heritage, reflected in its French-inspired architecture and vibrant culture.
The town is not only famous for its exceptional wines but also for its breathtaking mountain views and scenic hiking trails, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in nature while indulging in the finer things in life. La Residence is conveniently located just minutes from the town centre and offers a complimentary 24h luxury shuttle service for easy access. The property itself is truly stunning and is often considered one of the most beautiful estate hotels in the world. It seamlessly blends classic and modern design, characterized by high ceilings, plush furnishings, and exquisite artwork.
All communal areas and suites were designed by the talented owner, Liz Biden, who did an exceptional job combining heritage with colourful art while incorporating the surrounding natural beauty. It’s no surprise that La Residence is a favourite among many celebrities, including Elton John, who gifted several jacarandas to the property.
Surrounded by lush gardens filled with indigenous flora, the hotel enhances the sense of tranquillity. Its picturesque setting, with manicured grounds and breath-taking mountain vistas, creates a serene atmosphere for relaxation. The views from every area and suite are remarkable, and the hotel’s architecture beautifully frames the surrounding landscape. Dozens of peacocks roam freely across the estate, adding an enchanting touch of natural magic.
While the opulent décor adds sophistication, the attentive staff create a warm and welcoming environment that makes guests feel right at home. That opulence is evident in the details: a welcome team greets guests with chilled rosé and flowers upon arrival; breakfast includes caviar eggs; suites are cleaned multiple times a day; there’s a complimentary free flow of estate wines, along with an à la carte wine menu and a fully stocked mini-bar; luxurious slippers and other gifts await; complimentary laundry service and a 24-hour luxury shuttle to town and nearby wine domains are provided; all paired with exceptional service.
Together with its unique design and stunning surroundings, these thoughtful touches make La Residence one of the best hotels in the world.
