Restaurant
El Huerto
Sacred Valley, Peru
El Huerto is the fine dining restaurant of the five star Hotel Rio Sagrado and is located in the verdant Sacred Valley that is surrounded by the majestic Andes mountains. The property is set on the banks of the Urubamba River and the whole style of the hotel and restaurant is to resemble an authentic Andean village.
The property was bought by the Orient-Express Hotels in 2010 and has since then focused more and more on luxury travellers and to attract them it is of course necessary with a fine dining restaurant – El Huerto.
Hotel Rio Sagrado raised its prices when it became a five star property, so you can not expect any reasonable prices compared to many other fine dining restaurants in Peru. A dinner with three courses will easily set you back around 80 dollars per person so quite expensive compared to several other great restaurants in the country. The price is obviously adjusted to international guests and there are not any good restaurant alternatives nearby so if you stay at the hotel you eat at the hotel.
Executive Chef Angel Hilares Concha makes a fine job in the kitchen, making you dishes like the alpaca (the domesticated species of the South American camelid that resembles a small llama in appearance) loin and quinua green risotto vegetables brunoise and rocoto chilli sauce. Another dish you should have is the delicious Andean trout with saffron scented baby vegetables broth.
A visit to the Sacred Valley of the Incas is a must for everyone travelling around in Peru and El Huerto is one of the few proper fine dining restaurants in the area so give it a try and you will probably be satisfied, even if the restaurant does not reach the quality and experience you will enjoy at many other Peruvian fine dining restaurants.
