Restaurant La Barra is the newest restaurant from the group of top chef Carles Abellan. The restaurant is located in the Barceloneta area near the coast. The restaurant in the bustling Passeig Joan Borbó street faces the busy port area but ones inside you will enjoy the calm and comfortable setting.
The interior of La Barra, literally translated as the bar, is kept traditional, stylish and breathes the atmosphere of a modern tapas bar. Main attraction in the dining room is the huge double screen that shows the live capitation of the kitchen service in the main kitchen which is situated on the below floor. In the middle of the restaurant, you will find a charcoal grill on an island. Around the grill there are two big symmetric bars are installed so all guest have special and dynamic views. Besides the cosy and romantic interior, you have the electric-blue glow of the lobster tanks as an eye catcher.
Chef Abellán, who gained experience at the world-famous El Bulli group, was the first to get a Michelin star with a creative tapas restaurant, Comerç 24 Barcelona. After the opening of the two Tapas24 restaurants, Bravo at the W Hotel, and the more rough ‘Suculent’ with the Taverna del Suculent, Abellán can be named as a through inspirator for Barcelona’s gastronomical scene!
At La Barra, one will start with a first series of gastronomical tapas, followed by several pure fish or rice dishes prepared on one of the grills. The central area has a Japanese Robata grill, Basque grill and tepan grill. In this area mackerel, cuttlefish, squid, eel and prawns are fresh delicacies daily prepared as it should be. Meat lovers can opt for the wagyu steak. Afterwards your meal should be followed by one of the offshore classics like perfectly prepared paellas or stews. The La Barra rice is prepared with cuttlefish and sobrasada sausage. A classic!
