Restaurant Lasarte
Barcelona, Spain
1973 was the first year chef and restaurateur Martín Berasategui came in contact for real with gastronomy and started to develop his cooking skills. In 1993 he opened up his Martín Berasategui Restaurant in Basque Country’s Lasarte-Oria and after that his success has just continued straight upwards. In January 2006 the doors were opened to Restaurant Lasarte in central Barcelona. To establish a fine dining restaurant serving Basque cuisine in Catalonia takes courage. Especially if the restaurant has the name of a Basque village so it better has to be good. Martín Berasategui has created the menu for the Barcelona outlet and Chef de Cuisine Antonio Sáez is doing a fantastic job so no worries at all about the quality – Restaurant Lasarte is on the top.
Chef de Cuisine Antonio Sáez originally studied at law school in Barcelona, but his passion for gastronomy changed his path in life and after culinary studies he was ready for a career as a cook. In 2002 he started to work at Martín Berasategui Restaurant and in late 2004 he returned to Barcelona to prepare the project of the upcoming Restaurant Lasarte. Antonio Sáez was promoted Head Chef in 2008. Today at Lasarte you will find dishes created both by Martín Berasategui and by Antonio Sáez, but there is a strong focus on Berasategui’s original cuisine.
Restaurant Lasarte is located inside the Hotel Condes de Barcelona in the heart of the city. 35 guests can be seated divided into three platforms placed at different levels where the lowest platform is on street level with views straight out at the busy Mallorca street and the highest offers a more private setting. The contemporary open and light style made of limestone & wood wall panelling and pavement of wooden tiles works perfect together with the cuisine.
The amazing roast pigeon from Navarra (Araiz) rested on a creamy stew of durum wheat, touch of truffle, potato and spicy sauce is a must if it is on the menu. The farmhouse egg with beetroot and liquidised herb salad, Basque “cocido” carpaccio and smoked cheese is another example of the delicious cuisine offered and a reason alone to make a reservation at the restaurant.
Restaurant Lasarte is one of the absolutely best restaurants in Barcelona and can easily compete with other restaurants on a global level. You will have an impeccable dinner experience with little more to ask for.
