Righi la Taverna is located in the microstate of San Marino. You will find it almost at the top of the Apennine Mountains at the Piazza della Libertà, just next to the Palace of the city government. Not many people live in this tiny country, but they surely are gifted with a top restaurant.

The Righi family owns Righi la Taverna since several generations back. Today’s Patron, Pier Giovanni Righi, has developed the concept of the restaurant. You have a casual section at the ground floor and a fine dining section one floor up. This review is only about the fine dining restaurant upstairs where you enjoy a top meal in a traditional setting, almost a medieval setting which works perfect, surrounded by old buildings and a breathtaking view of the Italian landscape.

The cuisine of the restaurant is obviously heavily affected by the Italian cuisine since the whole country is surrounded by Italy and most customers come from Italy as well, but the restaurant manages to keep a distinct style and integrity thanks to the talented and skilled Head Chef Luigi Sartini. He stays faithful to local produce as much as possible and his cuisine combines both traditional and new thinking in a perfectly fitted blend.

Chef Luigi started to work for the Righi family back in 1990 and has evolved and improved the restaurant’s cuisine and culinary concept several times since then. Today, Righi la Taverna offers a cuisine and level of service which will make an ordinary restaurant green with envy.

You can choose from several tasting menus and you will also have some great à la carte selections like the mutton kebab wrapped in the network with thyme and potato gratin, or the duck breast with fruit confit and light curry sauce with mixed vegetables. Make sure to order in some of the excellent cheeses after your main course. You can decide how many pieces of cheese you would like to have. Finish your meal with ravioli with almonds, cassata, and orange sauce.

Righi la Taverna is the obvious selection when you are in San Marino. The level of service is impeccable and you will enjoy a delicious meal in a setting which will take you back in time.
