The Stenhus Restaurant – medieval

Nestled in the five star Schlössle Hotel, The Stenhus Restaurant's 13th-century cellar with vaulted ceilings and a huge log fireplace, provides the perfect medieval setting in which to enjoy Estonia’s best cuisine. Tallin is not a big city with its 400,000 inhabitants, but it is by far the biggest city of Estonia. The Stenhus Restaurant is the perfect place to visit to find out more about the Estonian cuisine with a nice touch of haute cuisine.

Head Chef Tõnis Siigur has reinvented several of the Estonian traditional dishes, which lack any international reputation, and made fine dining out of them. We recommend going with the Menu Estonie and you will have beignets of Baltic herring with yoghurt and morena roe sauce, spiced potato with lingonberries, Estonian pork confit and green apple jelly with black bread cream. You can choose bigger tasting menus as well, but the Estonian menu gives a good selection and you will be full up by all means.
During summer you can have your lunch or dinner in the courtyard garden, but the main dining room is where to be if you like to experience what The Stenhus Restaurant is all about.

The Stenhus Restaurant has won the local gastronomy award Silverspoon Award for 'Best Gourmet Restaurant' several years and it deserves that, but we compare the restaurant with all the best restaurants globally. On a global level the restaurant is decent and absolutely worth your time if you are in Tallin, but it is not worth making reservations for any additional flight tickets.

The Stenhus Restaurant scored 54 points of 100 points in our rating system. View our Top 60 of the world. Back to the reviews.
