Restaurant Vendôme is located just a ten minutes drive away from the top dining venue Gourmetrestaurant Lerbach and both restaurants share the same owner – Althoff Hotel & Gourmet Collection which owns several properties in Germany as well as in London and Saint-Tropez. But only one property has the über-talented Head Chef Joachim Wissler.
Restaurant Vendôme is a must for everyone who cares about food so prepare yourself for a long and fantastic dinner if you have not already been to the restaurant. During summertime the tasting menu is of around 13 courses then not included the amuse-bouches and the final nibbles and that is more than you have at most gourmet restaurants, but during winter time the tasting menu can be of around 23 courses so you will have a marathon dinner. A marathon is exhaustive to run, but to sit through one of Joachim Wissler’s dinners is only pure joy and one of the best dinners you will have in your life.
Joachim Wissler was born in 1963 in Nürtingen near Stuttgart and he grew up in the Schwäbische Alps. He was trained by legendary Harald Wohlfahrt at his Schwartzwaldstube in Traube Tonbach and in 1995 Joachim Wissler had his first accolade at Schloss Reinhartshausen. Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg opened its doors as a luxury hotel in 2000 and at the same time the new gourmet restaurant Vendôme was opened and with Joachim Wissler as the Head Chef.
Restaurant Vendôme is one of the restaurants in Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg, that is located in Bergisch Gladbach just at the outskirts of Cologne. The setting in a grand castle is perfect for a gourmet restaurant such as Vendôme, but everything comes with a contemporary style so forget about old-style when it comes to everything, from the interior with mint green swivel chairs in the dining room to fresh wasabi on your plate.
Joachim Wissler has taken inspirations from all over the world in his cuisine and some of his many delicious dishes are the; “Calf” with calf heart, parmesan, artichokes and pine nut vinaigrette; and the “Crabs” with tandoori, masalacream and lemon couscous. You will also find some traditional German dishes that are all made to perfection, but the chef’s most interesting dishes are the contemporary ones such as the starter; “Maccaron” with mushroom baiser, ricotta and soya mayonnaise; and “Stomach of Porc” with crisp pork meat “Marrakech” and chicken peas. There are many other delicacies and it depends on the season what you are having.
Make a reservation now at Restaurant Vendôme because it is one of the best dinner experiences you can have anywhere in the world.
