Restaurant
Galatoire’s
New Orleans, United States
It is not that easy to write a fair review of a restaurant that almost is a historic institution in New Orleans and that is more than 100 years old, but wbpstars.com’s most important criteria will always be the actual taste of the food and Galatoire’s leaves more to be desired in that department.
Since the start 1905, when the restaurant was founded by Jean Galatoire in the French Quarter of New Orleans, it has been specialised in serving the traditional French Creole cuisine. Not much has changed since Jean Galatoire’s glory days and the restaurant is still strict with its first floor policy with first come, first served rule even if you can make a reservation on the second floor nowadays.
You will find a lot on the menu that you are not used to find anywhere else, like the turtle soup au sherry that does not taste that good, but might be interesting if you are curious about how turtle tastes like. There are better options in the extensive menu so try the Galatoire Gouté, the crabmeat Sardou and the broccoli Hollandaise instead.
It is obvious that Galatoire’s splits people’s opinion into two camps where one part really appreciates and likes the old fashion style and the other part can not take the concept and the style. Galatoire’s certainly is a special place, but when it comes to taste and quality of the food there are better alternatives in New Orleans.
