Maison is a 40 seat restaurant situated in an old two-story building in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. It is run by chef Sota Atsumi, who left the celebrated Parisian restaurant Clown Bar in 2017 to open Maison. After two years of waiting, Maison was finally opened in 2019. Atsumi’s wife Akiko Otsu has been part of the development of the concept together with famous artist like David Lynch, who created the Maison logo. The logo actually is a fun rendering of the restaurant’s name in characters including the house, a fork and a sun. Inside you will also find a custom-designed stereo by the French photographer JR. The interior features beautifully tiled red terracotta walls and is designed by the Japanese architect Tsuyoshi Tane. Upstairs in the spacious loft you will find the dining room with the kitchen open in front of the guests.
The Chef
In the early 2000’s Sota Atsumi, just out of high school, left Japan and arrived in Lyon. There he started his incredible career which spans restaurants like Clown Bar, Saturne, Toyo, Michel Troisgros, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon and others. During his career, Sota has acquired great knowledge of classical French cooking. It was at Vivant, however, where he was introduced to a seasonal neo-bistro cooking where what is in season and best at the market sets the menu
The Food
At Maison one can expect an ever-changing menu with unique flavour combinations with both Japanese elegance and great French produce. During the years Sota has built up a great network of suppliers that offer the highest quality produce. Sustainability is also important and is shown in both the wine list as how the kitchen makes use of the whole product. Service is attentive and friendly, led by Aurélien Robert. The staff seem very knowledgeable and passionate about what they serve.
The Experience
With the changing menu and the unique delicious combinations, Maison is a place one can return to many times. The products used by chef Sota, and the wines offered by his team, are selected with the same thoroughness, respect and sense of harmony as the materials decorating the restaurant. A wonderful restaurant
