Personal is the first word which will come in mind when you think of this gem of a restaurant. Personal cuisine made of the best seasonal ingredients (of which most come from Austria), personal service, and personal ambience to enjoy while you are having some of the country’s best cuisine.
Karl Mraz worked in his mother’s coffee shop before he opened his own restaurant. The ambition was not to open a luxury restaurant or anything like that, just a local bistro with tasty food. Later on Karl’s son, Markus, took over the business, and he evolved the business into a more sophisticated fine dining venue. Today, Chef Patron Markus Mraz cooks together with one of his sons, Manuel. His other son, Lukas, is also a culinary gifted person, but he is for the time being seeking gastronomic challenges outside the walls of Mraz & Sohn. Restaurant Manager & Sommelier Peggy Strobel is engaged to Markus and together they run a family business which will move you and take care of your taste buds in best possible way.
The contemporary style of the dining room and the lovely inner courtyard is all very inviting. The style is personal and on the walls you will find beautiful paintings made by Manuel Mraz himself. The restaurant is filled with creativity emanating from the owning family. Even some of the interior decorations are made by the family so you will find art and a style at Mraz & Sohn which you will not find anywhere else. In addition to the delicious cuisine a visit alone is worth it just for the style of the restaurant and the warm-hearted atmosphere.
The seasonal cuisine of the family Mraz is highly creative and you will soon notice the playfulness of the presentations which is a feast for both your eyes and palate. The tasting menu called “No risk No fun” is a perfect introduction to the gastronomic universe of Mraz & Sohn. There are two additional menu selections as well in addition to the à la carte with dishes like the Danube salmon with gin-cucumber oysters or cap of rump of veal with peas, passion fruit and almonds. If you are lucky to dine at the restaurant in May, you will have the local game delicacy of Maybuck. It can be served with musquee pumpkin, mushrooms, curd and blueberry.
Mraz & Sohn is a restaurant which should be on everyone’s list of top restaurants when in Austria. The amazing cheese presentation made by Peggy Strobel, alone makes it worth a visit and in addition the restaurant offers a great wine cellar, of course dominated by the best Austrian wines. Markus Mraz and his family truly have created a restaurant experience for you to dine at over and over again.
