Teppanyaki Restaurant Sazanka
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Teppanyaki is a style of Japanese cuisine where chefs cook on a hot griddle right in front of you. Eating teppanyaki is like having a live personal performance for the whole evening. The griddles are large enough for seven to ten guests so if you are fewer it will be a sharing table which means you get the chance to see a lot of different dishes prepared live by the chef. One could say the whole restaurant is a chef’s table!
All the chefs at Sazanka are Japanese and will speak English. Sazanka and its sister restaurant Yamazato which has kaiseki cuisine are led by Executive Chef and Manager Masanori Tomikawa. Both the restaurants are situated on the ground floor of Hotel Okura. Masanori Tomikawa moved from Japan and started working at Hotel Okura already in 1984. He was trained by the former Executive Chef Akira Oshima. Akira Oshima notably received the Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau in recognition of successfully introducing authentic Japanese in the Netherlands. Since 2010 Masanori Tomikawa has been successfully running both the restaurants.
In Sazanka the chefs will prepare delicious fish, top quality wagyu meat and seasonal vegetarian dishes on the hot iron griddle at your table. It is really à la minute cooking with Japanese precision. You can either go for the à la carte or choose a signature menu and they even have a pure vegetarian menu. To match there is a wide choice of wines and sake. Service is attentive and professional.
Sazanka is a place to visit if you want to enjoy fresh and tasteful food while at the same time having a captivating culinary performance right in front of you. It is a very social and fun way to enjoy food.
