La Grande Maison de Bernard Magrez is a small luxury hotel located in the centre of one of the world’s most famous wine capitals, Bordeaux. The property is owned by the famous businessman and “ Ambassador of Excellence” Bernard Magrez. Bernard also owns no less than four Grands Crus Classés wine domains in the Bordeaux region: Chateau Pape Clément (Graves), Chateau La Tour Carnet (Haut Médoc), Chateau Fombrauge (Saint-Emilion) and Clos Haut Peyraguey (Sauternes). All guests of the hotel are invited to visit one or more of these domains and to try some of his delicious wines. Guests can also visit the Cultural Institute Bernard Magrez, the leading contemporary art centre in Aquitaine, located just in front of La Grande Maison.
Bernard Magrez created la Grande Maison in 2014. It is a small but prestigious hotel, with only six luxurious rooms. The rooms were decorated by Frédérique Fournier and refinement and elegance were key in his design. He started from a revisited Napoleon III style and French crafts, silk, and vibrant colours are omnipresent. The walls are covered with real fabrics in pink, green, violet or red colours. Large curtains in the same colours as the walls cover the windows and luxurious French furniture enhances the castle atmosphere. Bathrooms are spacious and bright, traditionally designed but with all modern amenities. Each room has its own character and they carry beautiful names such as Contemplation, Hope and Harmony. At La Grande Maison, Bernard Magrez wants his guest to feel like home and a sense of comfort is injected into the rooms through the use of subtle lighting, thick bath towels, bathrobes and soft slippers. Additionally, all products like coffee and drinks from the minibar are included.
For Bernard Magrez, La Grande Maison should be seen as a residence of different ‘arts’:
- The Art of Great Wines, which is translated in a stunning wine menu. This menu features all Crus Classés of Bordeaux (259 references including 172 Grands Crus Classés), which is unique in the world.
- The Art of the Culture and the City of Bordeaux, which is transmitted through the refinement of the luxurious “château” of the late 19th century, and its unique interior decoration.
- The Art of Haute Cuisine, with a worldclass restaurant directed by one of the world’s most famous chefs, Chef Pierre Gagnaire. On a day-to-day level the kitchen is managed by Jean-Denis Lebras, who worked with Pierre Gagnaire for eleven years. At La Grande Maison, the guest can enjoy a kitchen that carries the Pierre Gagnaire signature but is refined by Jean-Denis. The best local produce is used to create French classics as well as modern creations. For more information about this wonderful restaurant, please, click here.
The Contemporary Art, that guests will discover everywhere in La Grande Maison. The interior is upgraded with selected works of the Bernard Magrez collection and no less than 400 unique pieces of which the most beautiful artworks are displayed in the rooms, the lounges of the restaurant, the garden, and at the Institute Cultural Bernard Magrez.
Bernard Magrez & Pierre Gagnaire like to profile themselves as “the ambassadors of excellence”. Indeed, at La Grande Maison it is all about excellence, passion, and French Grandeur. Excellence in hospitality, excellence in gastronomy, excellence in wines, and excellence in art. You are invited to live an exceptional experience in this magnificent residence – une maison de Grandeur.
