Coi
San Francisco, United States
Chef Patron Daniel Patterson is not like the typical successful chef. He is one of California’s most recognized chefs, but yet he is soft-spoken, laid-back and almost shy in his appearance. His cooking affects and fascinates you and you soon feel for sharing the Chef’s vision and philosophy. Patterson’s cooking is skilful and intelligent and it will engage all your senses.
His contemporary cuisine is something for all your senses, it has to be experienced to be fully understood. Smell it, eat it, and love it. The cuisine is complex, but yet so simple as soon as you understand it. The first impression of the Chef’s cuisine might be difficult for someone expecting a piece of meat and some potatoes, but for food lovers around the world a visit to Coi is something which will move you. Few other chefs manage to communicate more directly via the cuisine. It is like the food could talk directly to you.
Dishes like beet plus goat cheese tart which is broken and inverted or an artichoke grilled under a weight are typical of Patterson. Daniel’s cooking will never stop surprising you even if it sounds conventional, like the Anderson Ranch lamb in two servings which is not what you expect or the Monterey Bay abalone which is fantastic.
The Chef does not like to spend time in the dining room, but you can catch a glimpse of him through the centered window facing the open kitchen from the main dining room. There are two dining rooms, one in a lounge style, the second more formal. The contemporary style is a perfect setting for the Chef’s cuisine.
Daniel Patterson is also a restaurateur and owns three restaurants of which the other two can be found in his hometown in Oakland, but Coi is his masterpiece where you are likely to find him.
Chef Patterson’s innovative cuisine is winepaired brilliantly by the sommelier who has a true challenge finding suitable wines. You will have wines and other beverages from all over the world so not just from the typical regions. Amazing wines from Greece and Hungary will be served in addition to perfectly tempered Japanese sake.
Coi is the perfect restaurant for people with passion not seeking just the obvious. Patterson’s intelligent cuisine will affect you and move all your senses so prepare yourself for something really special at Coi.
