The history of da Vittorio starts in 1966 when married couple Bruna and Vittorio Cerea founded their restaurant in the heart of Bergamo. The restaurant was soon recognised as one of the region’s best. Bruna and Vittorio Cerea got two daughters and three sons who all grew up with the haute cuisine close to them every day, year after year. Today da Vittorio restaurant has grown into one of the planet’s best restaurants.
Today two of the Cerea family’s sons are the Executive Chefs – Enrico (called Chicco) and Roberto (called Bobbo) and the third son is the Restaurant Manager – Francesco. Together with their sisters Barbara and Rosella they run one of the best restaurants in the world.
Tuna fish tartar with prawn carpaccio, ginger crispy and sea vegetables, after that on to shrimps from Liguria with cheese cream and peanuts sauce, and then to a big king prawn steamed with mayonnaise and lemon, and end all the starters with salted squid with crusted bread and gazpacho with tomato rhubarb, watermelon and basil. You will start your tasting menu with all the mentioned courses and they might all sound like they come from any ordinary Italian restaurant, but the execution of every single ingredient, the feeling for every detail and the taste take you somewhere between driving a sports car like a car thief and some really good sex on the pleasure scale. It is exquisite beyond any pleasure scale. And then you have six more courses to go before it is time for the sweets.
Fine dining is a lot about the details and all the attention every single detail demands to result in perfection. The Cerea family manages to keep a perfect attention to details with everything from the hand baked croissants to one of Italy’s most impressive wine cellars.
The Cerea siblings together with the rest of the team of da Vittorio all do an amazing effort that results in one of the best restaurants available anywhere. No big inventions in the cuisine, but as long as you are aware of that and just enjoy yourself you will have one of the best gourmet experiences available.
