There are many family managed restaurants around the world, especially in Europe. But this family really takes hospitality to the absolute top level. You have to experience it yourself to fully understand, but we can assure you that you will like it. Lisl Wagner-Bacher was literally born into the kitchen since it was her parents who founded Landhaus Bacher. Eventually Lisl took over the restaurant together with her husband Klaus. It did not take long for Cook Lisl to become a truly great chef; soon she was recognised as one of the top chefs in Austria. Especially when it comes to traditional cooking based upon the nouvelle cuisine. Lisl and Klaus have two daughters, Christina Kopriva-Wagner and Susanne Dorfer-Bacher who are in charge of the restaurant and hotel since October 2014. Susanne is married to the restaurant’s Head Chef – Thomas Dorfer.
Chef Thomas was born in 1975 and worked at restaurants in Switzerland and Australia before he took on the position as the Head Chef for Landhaus Bacher in 2002. He worked for a year at Landhaus Bacher already in 1996 to 1997, but most notable were his years spent at Restaurant Bareiss in Germany’s Black Forest which is one of the best gourmet destinations in the world.
Landhaus Bacher is located in the Wachau region about an hour’s drive from Vienna. Wachau is one of the most notable and established wine regions of Austria so, of course, you will have some of the most amazing collections of the local white wine available in the world. In addition, Klaus is also specialised in Bordeaux wines so you can have some absolutely impeccable red wines from France combined with the very best white ones from Austria at an unforgettable meal made by Lisl and Thomas.
