Restaurant AOC is situated in the vaulted cellars of a historic brick building. The mansion Moltkes Palæ, dates back to the 17th century and truly is a hidden gem in the very centre of Copenhagen. Its location near Kongens Nytorv, Frederiks Kirke and Nyhavn is perfect for both business and leisure diners. At AOC, owners Christian Aarø and Søren Selin put taste, vision, colour and smell at the centre of AOC’s dining experience.
The interior of restaurant AOC is classic with modern touches. The dining room still has the original vaults and stone floor from the authentic building and by adding several stylish lightning elements, they created a bright and cosy feeling. The minimal but artistic wall decorations in combination with soft floor rugs, comfortable chairs and dining tables reflect an intimate feeling. AOC’s dining room is an elegant space with a view from the main corridor into the restaurant’s heart: the kitchen. For guests searching more privacy, the property also features a beautiful private dining room. Private dining from 10 to 18 persons is offered in an exclusive room behind glass doors at the far end of the dining room. There is a separate lounge for aperitive while the main dining room seats about 50 guests. Every aspect exudes class and grandeur and those elements will remain key during your meal.
The Chef
Søren Selin gained culinary experience in Paris at Le Relais Louis XIII (2 Michelin stars) and Jules Verne (1 Michelin star). In addition, he was the Executive Head Chef of restaurant Alberto K in the iconic Hotel Royal Copenhagen. Søren Selin was appointed Head Chef of AOC in March 2013 and only one year later he received the second Michelin star. Selin seeks to emphasise on what is wonderful in the local nature, as well as stimulating as many of our senses as possible.
The Food
Selin’s cuisine retains some elements from the classical haute cuisine, but stimulates a local cuisine that’s rooted in Danish ingredients and seasons, and a natural cuisine where the raw materials are the stars. He features a lot of attention to the small details on each plate but never goes too complex. Dish after dish will be served with great attention to details and the technical execution is always spot on. Using the very best products available and also respecting the produce. Like with the scallop menu dish, where he presents scallop slices in combination with German turnip & dill. Simple but delightful are dishes like grilled langoustine on the Green-egg with fermented cherries or the baked onion with wild mushrooms.
The Experience
It should come as no surprise that AOC has an extensive wine collection. Sommelier Christian Aarø tastes and selects wines from both the old and new world regions, in a way that food and wine pairs in perfect balance and harmony. In combination with the AOC tasting menu, guests can opt for a pairing of 5 glasses, 8 glasses or the juice pairing.
Restaurant AOC has a superb location in the center of Copenhagen. It is a great getaway for a quiet dinner in a classical setting. The menu focuses on local flora and fauna which is used to create an incredibly stimulating experience of taste, color, smell and texture. Recognizable top products and the best of each season in a natural cuisine where the raw materials are the stars. Pure and simple!
