Restaurant &samhoud places is the cosmopolitan fine dining restaurant from Chef Patron Moshik Roth, located just next to the Oosterdok water in Amsterdam. Oosterdok is part of ’t IJ, which is a lake that separates downtown Amsterdam and Amsterdam North. The whole area around ‘t IJ is on an upswing in recent years and many restaurants, hotels and bars can now be found in this vibrant district.
The restaurant can be found nearby Amsterdam Central Station and is on a walking distance to the centre of Amsterdam. The exterior of the building integrates perfectly with the modern neighbourhood, but does not reveal that a top restaurant is hidden behind its walls. Situated on the ground floor below the main restaurant one can also find the other part of the &samhoud concept: &samhoud places streetfood. This no-nonsense restaurant offers guests a selection of international street food-based dishes that are inspired by Moshik’s travels. Moshik’s culinary fine dining temple &samhoud places is located on the first floor of the building. The interior of the gastronomic restaurant is luxurious, contemporary and the gold and brown colours provide a warm feeling. A big open kitchen offers a good view on the working chefs and large windows provide a splendid view of the Oosterdok River and the oldest part of the city of Amsterdam.
Chef Patron Moshik Roth hails from Israel and started working in The Netherlands as a pizzeria manager. He quickly discovered that fine dining was his true passion and the Chef gained experience in top restaurants such as De Librije and De Zwethheul. In 2001, he opened his own restaurant ‘t Brouwerskolkje in Overveen. In 2012 he joined forces with entrepreneur Salem Samhoud and together they opened &samhoud places in Amsterdam. Salem and Moshik both share a wonderful philosophy where innovation, creativity, health and respect for the people are important cornerstones. They also want to bring gastronomy to the world outside the restaurant and to achieve this Moshik also cooperates with the retail industry. The team of &samhoud places is young, dynamic, and very international. Passionate Sommelier Yoshiko van Dobben received several recognitions for her work and serves interesting pairing wines with the menu. Restaurant Manager Dennis Smith serves the guests in style and the charming Laura Martini and Floor van Gurp welcome guests and assist Moshik.
The food at &samhoud places is innovative, creative, and very international. Moshik Roth has a penchant for top products such as lobster, veal sweetbreads, truffles and foie gras, and these products are therefore often integrated into the menus and can also be ordered à la carte. He combines these great ingredients with very exotic products that he discovered during his travels. The dish ‘Amazon’ is a good example: Olluco potato is combined with tuber vegetables, plantain, caipirinha, sorrel, cassava ravioli, palm heart and tacacá. The dish is served in two parts (reflecting the Amazon from the mountains to the sea) on a placemat with images from the Amazon to strengthen the exotic atmosphere. Another interesting signature dish is ‘Salvador Dali’, which combines Sofa Bocca goose liver lips with raspberry, rose, almond and lychees. The dishes are creatively developed and reveal pronounced flavours. Some combinations, however, are more difficult to interpret and will especially appeal to the more experimental tasters.
&samhoud places is a very interesting restaurant in the centre of Amsterdam and guarantees a different & extraordinary dining experience. International ingredients, processed into tasteful and creative creations, form the basis for the kitchen of Moshik Roth. Throw in a beautiful location and a great team, and you know what you are up for at &samhoud places.
