The resort

Koyao Island Resort is a unique villa only resort located on the beautiful island of Koh Yao Noi in the famous archipelago of Phang Nga Bay in southern Thailand. The island is surrounded by beautiful nature, islands, beaches and rain forests and is remote yet easily accessible from Phuket or Krabi.

The resort is constructed in a traditional Thai architectural style, respecting the surrounding nature and offering breath-taking views from all villas. Getting to the resort is the first part of the experience: the island is located about a 75 minutes boat ride from Phuket and the hotel offers direct long tail boats. Villas

The beach villas at the main resort are designed in a traditional Thai style, combining natural elements like lots of wood with Western luxury. They all offer plenty of space and a perfect balance between modern amenities and the surroundings. The villas are made from local materials with natural palm leaf roofs. Guests can choose between Sea breeze studios, Beach villa’s, Beach villa suites, or Family beach villa’s.

For the most luxurious option, however, opt for one of the incredible 9 Hornbills tented pool villas. These luxurious safari-style tents offer truly memorable panoramic views, combining indoor spaces with a private pool and terrace. All of the (adult-only) Tented Villas have a sleeping area, a bathroom area with freestanding bathtub (with amazing views as well), and a reading area.

The seven tented villas are nestled on their own hill site, ‘Nine Hornbills’, referring to the bird species that also live on the hill. The design inside the Tented Villa’s is authentic, combining lots of wood with light colours and locally made furniture from sustainable teak forests. They are luxurious, offering all latest green technology in the indoor living, the bedroom and the bathing spaces. The low environmental impact is important and therefore the tents feature an insulated tented structure with special Bed air-conditioner, low energy fans, and FSC wood. Resort assets

One of the main resort assets of Koyao Island Resort and especially the 9 Hornbills tented pool villas is the view. Indeed, the views here are often referred to as the best in Asia. The surrounding national park and the Koh Hong archipelago consists of more than 100 limestone islands and all tents and villas boast the most spectacular views on the ocean and these famous limestone islands. The national park also offers many possibilities for great outdoor activities such as hiking, exploring deserted beaches, and water sports. These activities can all be booked at the hotel’s on-site activity centre.

At Koyao Island Resort Spa, guest can choose from a variety of therapies to relax mind, body and spirit. The two separate treatment rooms offer ultimate relaxation and wellness in a beautiful tropical setting.

The Views

Gastronomy

The resort’s own restaurant is called Pum Pui and gives guests the possibility to experience the Thai style of eating and sharing food. It is located on a beautiful beachfront location, offering mesmerizing views on the limestone islands and the ocean.

The menu at Pum Pui is divided into the five different main flavours, which together complete a real Thai meal. Some of the highlights we tasted include the Tom Yum Koong (Spicy sour soup with locally caught prawns, coriander, tomatoes and lemon grass), the Laab Neua (Minced beef salad with mint, chili, lemon grass and roasted rice powder) and the Poo Nim Phad Prik Thai Dam (Crispy fried soft shell crab in a dark garlic and pepper sauce). Things can get spicy, so check ahead if you do not really like the heat.

All guests of the 9 Hornbills Tented Camp are also treated to one complimentary floating breakfast. Probably the breakfast with the best view in the world – an amazing experience!
