Location & Hotel
Kyoto is a city where ancient traditions and modern innovations blend seamlessly. The cultural treasure trove of Japan and a former imperial capital for more than a thousand years, the city offers a rich array of historical landmarks, tranquil temples and carefully tended gardens. From the iconic Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) to the enchanting Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, visitors get a glimpse of Japan’s storied past at every turn. In addition to its historical appeal, Kyoto is also a centre of culinary delights, offering a wide range of traditional Japanese cuisine as well as innovative gastronomic experiences. With its timeless charm and vibrant energy, Kyoto captivates travellers from all over the world, making it an unforgettable destination for cultural exploration.
The Dusit Thani Kyoto opened in 2023 in the heart of Kyoto’s vibrant city center. Located just a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station in a quiet residential neighbourhood, the hotel offers guests direct access to the city’s main gateway. Many of the city’s best attractions are within walking distance, making the hotel’s location ideal for those who want to explore the city and also take a few day trips to attractions in the surrounding area. Dusit Thani is a Thai luxury hotel brand and at the Dusit Thani Kyoto, Thai hospitality is combined with Japanese elegance and modern luxury. The hotel’s façade is characterized by clean lines of wood, natural materials and subtle hints of Japanese craftsmanship.
Inside, the lobby welcomes guests with a sense of serenity, adorned with colourful, lush décor and warm earth tones. Drawing on the heritage of Kyoto and Ayutthaya, the Dusit Thani Kyoto artfully blends Japanese architecture with opulent Thai accents. Large blue and brown structures hang from the ceiling, contrasting beautifully with the beige furniture and light-coloured, solid floor.
The impressive design is continued in all public areas. The Devarana Spa, for example, offers a dark and warm ambience, while the restaurants combine vibrancy with design elements inspired by the cuisines on offer. At the basement level is a peaceful and immaculate Japanese garden and courtyard. Functioning as the centre of the hotel and surrounded by the hotel’s restaurants, it contrasts beautifully with the modern yet timeless interiors. There are several Japanese gardens on the grounds, and some of the rooms even offer a garden view.

Kōyō sources the freshest seasonal produce exclusively from the Japanese Kansai region. Inspired by the ancient calendar of 24 micro-seasons in Japan, each carefully prepared dish at Kōyō pays homage to the deep relationship between nature and community.
We enjoyed a great Teppan Omakase dinner at Kōyō. Highlights were the grilled Matsusaka beef, combined with sea urchin and caviar and served sushi style, and the incredible Matsusaka beef sirloin (one of the top 3 Wagyu sorts in Japan).
