A visit to Traube Tonbach is a journey full of luxurious relaxation, excellent service and world-class gastronomy. This is ensured by Michelin starred restaurants, an extensive spa & wellness area, and the superb Black Forest surroundings, with its hiking trails, magnificent views and unspoiled nature. It’s a place that could be revisited year after year, and will surprise and delight over and over again.
Location & Hotel
In the middle of the famous Black Forest, 4 km from Baiersbronn, Traube Tonbach is beautifully situated in the midst of nature. Sunny forest paths and a lush woodland landscape lead to the iconic property, which is enthroned on a hill above the Tonbach valley.
The national park is in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, and Tonbach is particularly known for its beautiful nature and fresh mountain air. A walk in the green surroundings of the hotel is a real pleasure and many hiking trails start right at the entrance of the hotel. This truly privileged location is one of the hotel’s main advantages. But there is more, much more…
The hotel is divided into two large buildings separated by the street. On one side is the “Haus Kohlwald”, the more modern part of the hotel. Here you will find the family rooms and the dog-friendly rooms, a small spa and wellness area and a building with the hotel’s three gourmet restaurants. This last part was destroyed by fire in 2020 and completely rebuilt in 2022. On the other side of the road, there is the traditional Traube Tonbach building, which houses the more authentic rooms, as well as the large wellness and swimming pool area, the half-board restaurant, the lobby, the spa and the shopping center.
The combination of both parts is unique and organically combines modern comfort and tradition. The ambience combines traditional Swabian atmosphere and architecture with a modern touch in the new buildings. Art is an important aspect of the design, and several modern works of art by German artists adorn the hotel’s common rooms and corridors.
The ensemble feels like a small village where you can easily spend a week, two weeks, or much longer. Traube Tonbach is a family business that was built in 1789. 8 generations of the Finkbeiner family have successfully turned the hotel into one of the best-known hotels in Germany. Today, owner Heiner Finkbeiner and his family run the hotel with the highest quality standards in all areas. Be it in gastronomy or in the wellness area, in sports or in personal service.

The majority of the rooms are located in the main building and are furnished in the style of a typical country house with a Black Forest ambience.
