Restaurant À l’aise opened in March 2017 by Danish couple chef Ulrik Jepsen, his wife Mia Hvidberg and Jan Nilsen. At the moment, this is one of the most exciting restaurants in Norway, serving contemporary French cuisine with Scandinavian influences.
À l’aiseis located in Majorstuen, central part of Oslo. The location of the restaurant is quite special. It is tucked in between a cinema and a parking house. You could call this restaurant a “hidden gem” for sure. With almost 700.000 people living in Oslo, it is very difficult to get a table at this 35-cover restaurant.
From the outside the restaurant has large windows with long curtains, which keeps it a bit mysterious. It is not until you enter the restaurant that you really understand what type of restaurant this is. Mia Hvidberg has carefully selected the interior for the restaurant and you can definitely see that a lot of effort and passion has been put in to make this the perfect spot to get spoiled in. The restaurant has wall-to-wall carpets and large spacious round tables with white linen cloths.
Chef patron Ulrik Jepsen, a 34 years old Dane has previously gained experience at prestigious restaurants such as Kokkeriet and Sølllerød kro in Copenhagen, Denmark and at The Waterside Inn, Bray, England. In Norway he his was chef de cuisine at Engø gård in Tjøme, Norway before opening his own restaurant in Oslo. Chef Jepsen loves French cuisine and he will give you his own interpretation when you visit À l’aise. Everyday, chef Ulrik and his brigade of 8 chefs are cooking with the best produce and the finest ingredients that you can find available, both regionally sourced and from abroad.
Ulrik Jepsen’s cooking can be enjoyed à la carte. But for those visiting for the first time, the tasting menu is the best way to explore his cooking. The tasting menu always offers some of Ulriks favourite ingredients such as truffles, caviar, langoustines, oysters and many more luxury ingredients, presented with his personal touch and style. On the menu you can also find Canard á la Presse, the famous French. This classic is one of the most popular dishes among his regular customers.
Front of house, Mia Hvidberg and restaurant manager Adriana runs a silky smooth, discreet and professional service team of 7 people. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. As you could expect, the superior part of the wine list is French but you will find good producers from all over the world as well. Chef sommelier Natalia, will offer you a wine pairing to go with the tasting menu that is very carefully selected.
The ambitions for the restaurant are very high and at the moment À l’aiseis probably the most exciting French and luxurious restaurant you will find in Norway. If you are in Oslo, don’t miss out on the opportunity to get culinary pampered at ease.
