The Aye Yar River View Resort is one of Bagan’s premium resorts. Originally built on one of Old Bagan’s Ayeyarwaddy riverside locations, the resort was created as a guesthouse of the Burma Airways Corporation in the 1950s. The premises got a serious makeover the past few years and today, The Aye Yar River View Resort is considered one of the better resorts in the area. Plans are in the making for further (riverside) expansion of the hotel.
Bagan is the most famous tourist zone in Myanmar and considered one of the most beautiful religious sites in the world. The ancient city is located in the Mandalay region of the country. Originally founded as the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the area consisted of over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries, of which more than 2,200 remain today.
Located within a stone’s throw of some of the temples, the Aye Yar River View Resort features an excellent location for the temple-lovers. The hotel is situated right in the heart of Old Bagan and on the eastern bank of Ayeyarwaddy River, only a ten minutes drive from the Nyaung Oo Airport. Upon entering, guests are immersed in the tranquil atmosphere of the resort, which sits on a sprawling ten acres of tropical gardens completed with a scenic 300-metres riverfront. This beautiful tropical setting gives the Aye Yar River View Resort an irresistible charm for families as well as couples.
The Aye Yar River View Resort features 117 spacious rooms, all with private patio or balcony and with stunning views of the Ayeyarwaddy River, ancient pagodas, or the surrounding gardens. All rooms and suites are designed with traditional Bagan-inspired elements and authentic handmade furnishings. The private patio or balcony also offer opportunities for en suite dining. The rooms are all air-conditioned and have a safety deposit box, seating area, private bathroom and free Wi-Fi. Standard rooms are less spacious and somewhat dark, but these rooms will be renovated the coming years. Other facilities of the resort include bicycle and electric bicycle rental, free parking, a pool (a very welcome respite after a day of temple-hopping!), a spa and a tour desk. The in-house Mekong Restaurant serves Asian, Myanmar, Western and fusion kitchen and room service upon request. For romantic riverside sundowners, head for the Sunset Bar.
The Aye Yar River View Resort is an excellent choice when visiting the beautiful Bagan region. It offers all you need to relax after a day visiting the temples and will complete your Bagan experience.
