Damara Mopane is a lodge from the Gondwana Lodges family located at the gates of the famous Damaraland in Namibia. Damaraland is sometimes considered as one of the most beautiful regions in Africa and a drive through the region is one of the best ways to explore this wonderful area. The large stretch of African savannah is dotted with rounded granite domes, dramatically shaped mountains and ephemeral rivers. It’s raw piece of nature where wild rhino, lion and desert elephant roam. The landscape dramatizes into red stone in the hot and dry summers and bleached grassy stretches in the even hotter wet seasons. Only one thing remains the same: the region’s unparalleled beauty.

Nestled in a green oasis at the borders of Damaraland, Damara Mopane lodge boasts 55 bungalows that are constructed in a semi-circle of interlinking pathways leading to a huge swimming pool at its core. The lodge is located near Khorixas en route to the famed Twyfelfontein engravings and incorporates the spirit of Damaraland and the Damara people. Friendliness and cosines are keywords here, and as with all Gondwana properties, the staff is well trained and super friendly.

Rooms And Suites

Damara Mopane features 55 chalets that are designed in a cosy, familiar way and each chalet has its own small garden full of flowers and, herbs and vegetables.

Smart and sometimes funny interior accessories creates a homely atmosphere. Indeed, this is a place where one immediately feels at home.

Hotel Assets And Experiences

Damara Mopane’s communal areas are beautifully and upon entering the property, guests really feel welcome. It’s not only a great stopover between, for example, Etosha and Swakopmund, it really is a place that’s worth spending some relaxing days. The food is abundant, fresh (most comes out of the private gardens) and delicious, and the bar is beautiful and extremely well stocked.

The huge pool forms the heart of the property and is a great spot to relax after a hot day in Damaraland. It is a surprisingly warm for Namibian standards – a nice extra! Another highlight and a must for everyone visiting the lodge, is the sunset viewing platform situated on a hill just a few hundred meters from the lodge. It’s an amazing place for a sweeping vista of the mopane woodland colored by the setting sun, accompanied by a sundowner drink.

Transport In Namibia

A trip through Namibia is one of the world’s most beautiful and exciting road trips. Only a small part of the roads are paved and most are gravel roads (mostly with quite some bumps and rocky/sandy parts). It is therefore highly recommended to rent a solid 4W4 vehicle.
