The resort
Elephant Hills is more than a resort – it is an experience. An experience where glamping (“glamorous camping”) is combined with an unforgettable encounter with some of the world’s most beautiful creatures and elements of nature.
Elephant Hills offers Thailand’s first Luxury Tented Jungle Camps and the concept combines the camp idea of African national parks with the Thai tropical forest environment. The resort is in fact spread out over two camps located in the famous Khao Sok national park (part of Southern Thailand’s largest stretch of primary Rainforest): the Elephant Camp and the floating Rainforest Camp. The camps are located about a two hour drive away from Phuket, and transfers from several locations all over Thailand (such as Krabi, Phuket and Koh Samui) are included in the package price. This price also includes accommodation, activities, meals and the services of amazing English speaking tour guides.
The Elephant Camp is the main area of the resort and consists out of the well-appointed tents, a semi-open-air restaurant, a bar, and a swimming pool with superb view of the spectacular limestone cliff backdrop.
The Rainforest Camp opened in January 2011 and is situated in the middle of Cheow Larn Lake in Khao Sok National Park. It is one of the only floating tented camps in the world, boasting 20 luxury safari tents that are beautifully surrounded by the lake, the rainforest and the mighty limestone mountains.
Rooms & Suites
Rooms or suites or not good words to describe the accommodation at Elephant Hills, as guests spend the night in luxurious tents in both of the property’s camps (which are located approximately two hours away from each other). Elephant Hills is one of Thailand’s few Glamping properties, where a traditional nature camping experience is combined with hotel-like luxuries such as good beds and electricity. Waking up to the sounds of nature in one of these tents is a memorable and relaxing experience.
The setting of both camps is entirely different (one in the jungle and one at the border of the lake), but the tents are similar in terms of comfort and amenities. They are all equipped with comfortable beds, mosquito nets, real floors, electricity and an en-suite bathroom with hotel room like amenities. Electricity at Rainforest Camp can be limited as the camp is powered by solar and wind energy. The furniture is crafted by own craftsmen and feature beautiful little design elements inspired on the surrounding nature. All tents are of the same size and standard but you do have the choice between single/double, twin, triple or family tents.
Resort assets
At Elephant Hills, guests enjoy resort as well as non-resort assets. The luxurious glamping experience is the star of the resort itself, but outside the resort lies the big star of your Elephant Hills experience: the adventure tours in and around stunningly beautiful Khao Sok National Park. The resort offers 2 up to 4-day experiences, fully inclusive of accommodation, all meals, activities, a fully trained English speaking Thai tour guide and (joint) transfers to and from the camp.
Highlight of all tours is the unique Elephant Experience, during which guests get to wash, feed and interact with these beautiful creatures. Of course, riding on the elephants is not allowed and this should be avoided everywhere and anytime. Instead, Elephant Hills focuses on elephant welfare. Global Spirit, animals in tourism specialists, even awarded the resort with a 100% of minimum requirements for animal welfare. Many of these beautiful creatures at the camp have been working in the logging industry until this was banned by law in 1989. Today, the animals enjoy a much better life and guests are offered an interactive and respectful encounter with the elephants.
Other activities within the tours include hiking in the jungle, canoeing on the river, exploring mangrove swamps, visiting local markets, relaxing at the lake and much more. A truly unforgettable experience where one becomes one with nature.
Back at the camp, guests can enjoy a drink at the camp’s Jungle Explorer’s Bars or even refresh in the Elephant’s Camp pool while enjoying views of rainforest clad mountains and mystical jungle scenery.
Gastronomy
Elephant Hills offers buffet lunches and dinners with a wide variety of Thai dishes. Breakfast is varied and features mostly western dishes, with a choice of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, freshly baked bread, cheese, sausages, baked beans and eggs. This is not a gourmet destination, but the lunches and dinners are of great quality and ensure you get all the energy you need for the outdoor activities during the day. During the excursions, several snacks and bottled water are available as well.
