Fish River Lodge
Fish River Lodge is a remarkable lodge located at one of Africa’s most impressive sights: Fish River Canyon. This canyon is located in the southern part of Namibia and is the largest canyon in Africa and the second largest in the world.
The gigantic ravine is 160 km long in total, up to 27 km wide and almost 550 meters deep in some places. It is famous for its incredible sights as well as the Fish River Canyon hiking trail, one of the more popular hiking trails in Southern Africa.
Fish River Lodge is the only lodge situated directly on the Fish River Canyon. Thanks to its brilliant cliff-side location, visitors enjoy breath-taking views on the canyon all day long, from sunrise to sunset.
The lodge was built in 2009 and designed by Namibian architect Andy Chase. He was inspired by the natural surroundings and shapes and colours were matched with the harsh environment. The main lodge area is furnished with locally handcrafted tables and a beautiful mix of local and colonial accessories. The beautiful 4m ‘songololo’ leather couch overlooks the canyon and is the eye catcher of the room.
Fish River Lodge is situated on the western rim of the Fish River Canyon and the travel to the canyon is the first part of your experience. You will pass wild and rugged landscape along the way and once you enter the lodge, the dramatic views await you in full force. Make sure to check directions to the lodge and allow sufficient travel time, especially for the last 20 kilometres.
Rooms And Suites
Fish River Lodge features twenty chalets that are all perched on the brink of the canyon, only 8 meter from the canyon’s edge. They are constructed with enough distance between each other to ensure privacy for all guests. Because of the dry packed stonewalls, the chalets seem to blend seamlessly with its surroundings.
It’s all about the views at Fish River Lodge, and floor to ceiling windows offer panoramic views from dusk until dawn. Beds can be placed on the private outdoor deck for those who would like to sleep under the stars. All of the rooms have a spacious bathroom with double basin and an indoor as well as a second outdoor shower. The design of the rooms is cosy and somewhat minimalistic with earthy tones, stone and wood. The perfect setting that rightly draws attention to the sublime environment outside.

Fish River Lodge features a pool with spacious deck located right on the canyon’s rim. A pool with a view is an understatement! Lunches are served on the deck while breakfast and candlelight dinners are served in the in- or outdoor dining area, depending on the weather. The 45,000-hectare Canyon Nature Park is a sanctuary for amazing flora and endemic wildlife. Hiking and cycling trails through the canyon lead to water holes and rock pools that attract a wide variety of wildlife. Guests can participate in guided Canyon drives through the canyon (such as full day canyon or Sundowner drives), explore the canyon on fat bikes, or do various guided hikes from April to September. All are highly recommended.
