Hotel
JOALI BEING
Maldives
JOALI BEING is an exceptional property located on Bodufushi Island in the Maldives. As the first wellbeing island in the country, it places wellness and self-care at the heart of the guest experience. It features some of the world’s most innovative wellness facilities and unique transformational spaces, inviting guests on a journey of transcendence, self-discovery, and renewal. Beyond wellness, JOALI BEING offers some of the finest and most luxurious island villas, immersing visitors in a captivating dream world. Its cuisine – referred to as Culinary Art – goes beyond exceptional taste, offering sustainable, traceable, and honest food and beverages. This truly is one of the most impressive wellbeing islands in the world.
Location
JOALI BEING is located on the secluded island of Bodufushi in the Raa Atoll in the Maldives, situated in the northern part of the country. A 45-minute flight from Malé International Airport brings you to this serene destination, accessible via the Maldivian seaplane company or JOALI’s private seaplane. As one of the few properties in the Maldives with a private seaplane, it’s essential to check the availability of this luxury transfer before your trip. The private plane offers spacious leather seats and ample room, making it the perfect way to unwind while soaking in breath-taking views on your way to the island.
Managed by the same group, JOALI BEING sits just 10 minutes by boat from the original JOALI, a sophisticated resort in the Raa Atoll (which we visited as well). JOALI BEING is built on the natural island of Bodufushi, with sustainability at its core. It respects the island’s wild forest and integrates nature into every design aspect, following the principles of “biophilic design,” which aims to harmonize with the island’s natural flow. Surrounded by brilliant blue waters and coral reefs, this tropical paradise features white-sand beaches, swaying coconut palms, and lush vegetation, creating a peaceful sanctuary. The design of JOALI BEING, crafted by the island’s own architect and interior design studio, Autoban, is a testament to their expertise, having also designed the original JOALI on Muravandhoo Island. The result is a collection of stunning villas and communal spaces that are both visually striking and harmonious. It is luxurious yet understated; highly elegant yet warm; and state-of-the-art yet timeless.
The design begins at the “Gate of Zero” jetty, which invites guests to release burdens and embrace “the Joy of Weightlessness.” This futuristic, artistic jetty, resembling a morphing structure, embodies the calming flow of nature. The island’s other areas feature natural materials and soothing sunset hues, with spacious, rounded designs in both the villas and shared spaces that promote mental relaxation. The warmth and welcoming atmosphere of the design create an unparalleled sense of comfort, making JOALI BEING a truly unique and exceptional place.

The JOALI BEING Villas and Residences are among the most stunning holiday accommodations in the world. Designed based on “biophilic design” principles, these villas seamlessly integrate the natural environment with their architecture, using materials such as wood, marble, and natural stone to create a timeless, zen atmosphere. The unique colour palette combines beige, purple, pink, grey, brown, blue, gold, and a mesmerizing light tint of green, featured prominently in floor-to-ceiling metal structures that divide the bedroom and bathroom. In 2025, we stayed in a sublime Grand Ocean Pool Villa, which offered one of the most unique villa designs we’ve seen. Its huge indoor spacious are created in a remarkable grey, green and pink colour scheme and only the very best materials were used.
The outdoor area features a huge hanging chair, stunning pool in natural stone, and several lounge areas.
Each “Well Living Space” offers breath-taking views of the ocean or surrounding nature, large private pools, and unique features such as customized mini-bars, meditative instruments, and wellbeing games. State-of-the-art technology allows guests to control villa features, like curtains and lighting, with an in-villa iPad. Bathrooms feature both indoor and outdoor spaces with incredible views.
Welcome amenities include Sparkling Tea, fruit, and wellbeing snacks. While alcohol is not a standard offering in the rooms, it is available upon request, though not encouraged. JOALI BEING’s distinctive design is focused on evoking harmony and balance, eliminating negative vibrations, and enhancing the energy flow of the landscape. Each villa serves as a sanctuary, where time slows down, and pure enjoyment takes precedence—creating the perfect environment for reflection and wellness.
During an earlier stay in an Ocean Pool Villa, we were deeply impressed by the exceptional design and architecture of this villa as well. The high, chapel-like ceilings create an expansive feeling of space, and the use of only the finest luxury materials, paired with designer furniture and subtle artwork, makes the JOALI BEING villas design one of the most beautiful hotel designs we’ve seen. This villa featured a vertically laid-out infinity pool with sweeping ocean views, two separate lounge decks, and a spacious outdoor shower.
Resort Assets
Designed as a nature-immersive wellbeing island, JOALI BEING is all about wellness, or as the team calls it, “weightlessness”—a sense of freedom, joy, and lightness. The island offers personalised “transformative programmes” aimed at helping guests return home feeling renewed, uplifted, and inspired, with a new sense of ‘weightlessness.’
The wellness experiences are built around four pillars: Mind, Skin, Microbiome, and Energy. The signature Immersion Programmes combine modern science with ancient traditions and offer programmes ranging from five nights to three weeks, bringing together selected treatments, therapies, and experiences that reinforce each pillar. An array of wellbeing facilities and transformational spaces offers guests the chance to experience one of the most impressive wellness offerings in the world:
- AREKA is the main wellness area, featuring a spa complex for women and a separate one for men, along with 39 treatment rooms spread across the island. Some of the rooms boast stunning ocean views through floor-to-ceiling windows and glass floors. There’s also an over-water meditation deck and an ocean sala for immersive experiences and therapies. We tried the Signature Four Pillars massage, which was both relaxing and intensely rejuvenating.
- Kaashi is the hydrotherapy hall, where guests can experience the cleansing powers of a Russian Banya, an Aufguss Sauna, a Sensory Deprivation Room, a Salt Inhalation Room, and gender-specific hydro facilities. We experienced one of the Watsu treatments, a relaxing water therapy combining massage, gentle stretching, body movements, and pressure points. The therapist carries out the treatment in a hot water bath, making it a unique experience.
- Seda, the sound therapy hall, allows guests to restore their inner balance through the healing harmony of music and vibration, in a mesmerising space created by sound healing visionary and JOALI BEING collaborator Aurelio C. Hammer.
- The Discovery Sound Path is a secluded, palm-fringed trail leading to a sound therapy oasis, resonating with the natural rhythms of the island (also created with Aurelio C. Hammer).
- AKTAR is JOALI BEING’s herbology centre, inspired by the rich heritage of healing through the power of herbs. A curated library and calendar of interactive workshops offer guests the chance to discover the benefits of herbal teas and learn how to make natural body creams, face masks, and massage oils. The AKTAR shop offers a handpicked selection of dried herbs, oils, and natural cosmetics for purchase.
- Core is the movement and fitness space, which includes diagnostic rooms, private training rooms, a multipurpose studio, a fitness room, and an ocean sala.
In addition to the impressive wellness offerings, JOALI BEING provides a wide array of marine and land activities, such as yacht trips, dhoni excursions, and interactions with local Maldivian communities, along with sports and games on the island. There’s also a well-stocked library and a learning centre where educational workshops and experiential classes take place.
The main swimming pool is one of the most beautiful we’ve seen in the Maldives, consisting of five interconnected pools.
At B’Kidult, play is more than just fun: it’s a foundation for growth. Designed for early learning and wellbeing, this safe, inspiring space lets kids and teens explore nature, build confidence, and pick up healthy habits that stick for life.
JOALI BEING takes sustainability seriously. The island hosts one of the Maldives’ three turtle conservation sanctuaries, a reef restoration project, and a coral nursery. The sustainability infrastructure includes a desalinated water bottling plant, rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling systems, a glass crusher and recycler, a 1750 food waste composter, a vegetable waste crusher for fertiliser, and a biological wastewater treatment plant for safe disposal

The dining experience at JOALI BEING is defined as “culinary arts.” The Food & Beverage outlets focus on Earth-to-Table menus with clear ingredient traceability, offering fresh, locally harvested, and sustainably sourced foods that support small farms.
