Restaurant
Le Moulin de Mougins
Mougins, France
Le Moulin de Mougins is located in a sixteenth century olive mill on a hill five kilometres from Cannes. The restaurant became one of the most famous restaurants on the French Riviera mostly thanks to the founding chef Roger Vergé who invented La Cuisine du Soleil (the cuisine of the sun). In 2009 Sébastien Chambru took over as the Head Chef.
You can choose to sit outside on a cosy veranda and a terrace or inside in the spacious dining room. Dine al fresco surrounded by the olive trees and cicadas and avoid the dated dining room inside if you go to Le Moulin de Mougins.
There are three tasting menus to choose from during dinner of which none takes you to any gastronomic heaven, but Head Sommelier Alain Parnaudeau can certainly pick out some great wines for you. Alain Llorca who is the owner of Le Moulin de Mougins today certainly has a series of errors to adjust, if the restaurant is going to be anywhere close to what it once was. The light and fresh sun cuisine as it once was has become dull and uninspiring and it is obvious that the restaurant and the small auberge as it is as well, with a few guest rooms and apartments, solely survive on old merits.
There are so many great dining alternatives today at Côte d’Azur and in Provence so there is no reason for visiting Le Moulin de Mougins. Not even for nostalgia or for its famed name.
