Blanco Hotel Formentera is a luxurious design hotel located on the wonderful Balearic island of Formentera in Spain. Formentera is Mediterranean sea wonder and together with Ibiza it forms the “Pityusic Islands”. The two are separated by only 2 kilometres of ocean. According to many, Formentera is the closest you can get to the Caribbean islands in Europe. With its crystal clear blue waters, long stretches of white sand and a bohemian, laid-back atmosphere, the island truly is a slice of paradise.
Formentera is the smallest inhabited island of the Balearics and measures around 83 square kilometres. It has a remarkable narrow shape, giving it no less than 69 kilometres of stunning coastline which hides lots of beautiful beaches, coves and rocky areas. The island is easily accessible from Ibiza with a fast ferry that takes around 30 minutes only. Once on the island, the best way to get around is by scooter or bike and because of its flat profile, everything is easily reachable.
The island of Formentera changed quite a lot in the 20th century, when tourism on the Balearic islands started booming. The traditional and self-sustaining economy shifted to a tourism-oriented system, and numerous (beach) bars, hotels and restaurants saw the daylight. Mass tourism, high buildings and big dance clubs did however stay on its sister island of Ibiza. Little sister Formentera managed to keep its authentic, laid-back identity and remains an oasis of calmness and tropical bliss today. It’s an idyllic jewel in the Mediterranean and a place that will sear into your mind forever.
There are only a few small towns on the island and Es Pujols, located on the Northern side, is one of the biggest ones. It is here that one can discover the four star Blanco Hotel Formentera. The hotel is located in a quiet area, near to the centre and only a stone throw away from the beaches. It’s about a 10 minutes’ drive to the port of La Savina, where the ferries from Ibiza dock. The hotel naturally blends in with the environment. Blanco Hotel stars the colour white (“blanco” in Spanish) and emphasises a combination of relax and design. Modern Mediterranean accents are combined with white and other light colours, resulting in a contemporary yet timeless atmosphere. A place to disconnect, relax and enjoy the best nature has to offer.
Rooms And Suites
Blanco Hotel features 78 rooms, all decorated in the typical white, minimalistic but warm Blanco style. They are luxurious with spacious bathrooms and all necessary amenities. There are five room types to choose from:
- Deluxe rooms are beautifully decorated double rooms which combine a minimalistic design with a warm atmosphere. They feature a large, modern bathroom with walk-in rain-shower. Big and comfortable beds guarantee a good night of sleep. They also boast an outdoor terrace.
- Superior rooms are similar to the Deluxe rooms, but are located on the higher levels of the hotel. They boast beautiful views on the environment and/or pool area. The private terrace ensures a maximum of privacy.
- Junior suites offer more space and a higher level of luxury. There’s a spacious separate seating area, and luxury is key here.
- Garden suites offer 35 square meters of space with an outdoor terrace of 12m2. There’s even more luxury, with 2 televisions, a bed of 2 X 2 meters, and an extra sofa bed for 2 people. Besides the rain shower they also boast a private Jacuzzi.
- Suites are the option for those looking for lots of space and luxury. They offer no less than 50 square meters of space. There’s a separate living room, a wonderful and well-equipped bathroom and a terrace with private sun loungers.
Resort Assets
One of the main assets at Blanco Hotel is the wonderful, large outdoor pool, well equipped with plenty of sunbeds. The pool bar staff mixes some excellent cocktails and ending your day with a cocktail by the pool is a blissful experience that can’t be missed. The hotel also features a small gym if you fancy to burn some of those calories. There is a spa, too, where experienced therapists offer treatments like a cocoa scrub or a chiro massage.
Formentera is a great place to engage in some outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and of course plenty of water sports. The professional Blanco team will be happy to assist you with the bookings for these land and sea activities.
Gastronomy
A day at Blanco Hotel starts with the wonderful Blanco buffet breakfast which combines qualitative Spanish as well as international delicacies. During the day, snacks and light dishes (and drinks, of course) are available at the cocktail and pool bar.
For a gourmet experience, head to restaurant Carmen by Blanco. Here, the team of well-trained chefs offers a culinary Mediterranean experience with exotic accents. Fresh and local ingredients form the basis and are processed in balanced, light and modern dishes.
Don’t leave Formentera without sampling some of the local delicacies. Formentera’s cuisine is closely linked to the traditional way of life and of course influenced by the sea and the local agriculture. It is characterised by an almost absolute dependence on local products, due to the isolation of the Pityusic islands. This shortage of products, combined with creativity and the use of high quality produce (such as fish), has given rise to traditional recipes such as the farmer’s salad (with Peix sec (dried fish)), Frit de polp (fried octopus), Sofrit pagès (with meat and potatoes), Calamars a la bruta (fried squid in its own ink) or Bullit de Peix (fish stew with potatoes). The most characteristic sweets or desserts are Flaó (fresh cheese cake with mint), les Orelletes (aniseed sweet) and Greixonera (ensaimada pudding). Make sure to try the Gambas de Formentera, some of the best gambas available in the world!
