Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin is a famous hospitality icon in the Southern part of the Netherlands. The five star hotel is located at the Dutch coast and its sublime location on the beach is one of its biggest assets. Located on top of the highest dune of the coastal town of Noordwijk aan Zee, just a short distance from Amsterdam and The Hague, the Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin welcomes its guests in a historic and luxurious setting. Noordwijk is known as the “Flower Seaside Resort of Europe” and is a modern coastal town with a rich history. It is the vibrant heart of the “Bollenstreek” with a fantastic thirteen kilometers long sandy beach. It is a great place for relaxed leisure trips, business meetings and wonderful holidays.

The Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin consists of two parts: the Historic and the Grand Hotel. The Historic part survived a big fire in 1990 and has five floors, four of which are furnished with hotel rooms. The Grand Hotel was resurrected after the fire and consists out of eleven floors, nine of which are furnished with hotel rooms. The interior of the hotel is classic, authentic and luxurious and exposes the biggest collection of artworks from the famous painter George Van Herwaarde. With its exceptional service and authentic grandeur, Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin regularly welcomes the royal families of the Netherlands and Belgium. Throughout the years, the hotel hosted many famous guests such as Barack Obama, Michail Gorbatsjov and Tony Blair. The hotel also is the official host of the Dutch Football team.

Rooms And Suites

The hotel boasts 230 luxurious rooms, 20 suites and 4 penthouses. All 254 rooms have all the facilities you would expect from a five star hotel. The are equipped with lush fabrics, free Wifi, a minibar, bathrobe, hairdryer, shaving and luxurious bathroom amenities. The rooms offer beautiful views on the sea or the surrounding dunes. For those looking for more luxury, the suites are the best options. Our recommended room type is the sea view suite, which offers plenty of space with a separate hallway, a spacious seating area, an outdoor terrace, a beautiful bedroom with frontal sea views and a marble bathroom. The corner-side location ensures (sunset) views on the ocean from different sides – a wonderful experience.

Hotel Assets

Guests of the hotel are welcomed in the impressive lobby with polished marble and natural stone. Thoughtful renovations and careful restorations were carried out over the years. After a fire destroyed a big part of the hotel in 1990, the Hotel was rebuilt and expanded. Today Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin consists of two interconnected parts: the ‘Historic’ and the ‘Grand Hotel’.

The hotel offers enough to spend a week or more in total luxury and relaxation. Of course, there are plenty of restaurants and bars (please see below for more information). There is an indoor swimming pool with sauna, too, and several playing areas for the children.

The Spa & wellness MC features several areas for relaxations and relaxation rooms. The treatments are carried out by skilled and professional therapists and come highly recommended. There is also a hairdresser for those that want a fresh cut.

Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin has a long stretch of sandy beach where guests can relax on hot summer days. Sun loungers are available for those who would like to spend a day in the sand. The outdoor bar area features sun loungers with personal service as well. Sun loungers here are located on a grassy area: ideal for those that prefer to keep their toes sand-free!

The hotel is one of the most famous conference hotels of the Netherlands with nineteen conference rooms, including the famous ballroom Pické and the Keizerzaal, which features excellent views on the North Sea. All of the staff members are very professional, super friendly and make you feel welcome immediately. The hotel is family oriented and welcomes dogs as well.

Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin is famous for its excellent gastronomy offer. The hotel features several bars and great restaurants:

The beautiful ‘Breakers Beach House’ is located on the beach, offers stunning frontal sea views and outdoor dining when weather permits. This restaurant has become famous for its great ‘Plateau Fruits de Mer’ and the best fish and seafood dishes. Make sure to sample some of their delicious oysters as well.

The French Bistro ‘Brasserie la Terrasse’ offers brasserie-style dishes and Dutch classics.Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin also offers several pop-up restaurants during the high season months. During our latest visit (just after the covid-19 crisis), the event team of the hotel created pop-up restaurant ‘Se7en’. A wonderful in- and outdoor eating area, which combined a lounge atmosphere with a modern menu that combined the best of the sea with international touches.

Salt

If you are visiting Noordwijk and Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin, make sure to make a reservation at the wonderful SALT restaurant as well. This beach-side lounge and restaurant is located just next to Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin, and one of the best places to go for seafood. Their king crab preparation is legendary, but the plateaux fruits de mer and the oysters are worth a detour as well. The setting is reminiscent of the beach bars in Ibiza and the wonderful service tops of the experience.
