Hotel Okura is a five star luxury hotel located near the centre of Amsterdam in The Netherlands. It is one of the most prestigious hotels of the city and part of the Leading Hotels of The World. It is the only hotel from the Okura chain in The Netherlands, which is mainly active in Japan/Asia.
Hotel Okura is located in ‘De Pijp’ area, a dynamic and upcoming district within (20 min.) walking distance of the historic centre of Amsterdam. The business district is located within a few hundred meters, making it a great choice for business travellers. However, there are many markets, great bars and upcoming restaurants nearby, too. The building that houses Hotel Okura was once the second highest building in Amsterdam. It counts 23 storeys (note that there is no 13th floor) and is 78 metres high. Dutch architects Bernard Bijvoet and Gerard Holt, together with Japanese architects Yoshiro Taniguchi and Yozo Shibata, were responsible for the design.
Once inside, guests are welcomed in the spacious and luxurious lobby with lots of natural wood and brown and beige colours. The design is minimalistic, yet warm and with several references to Japanese culture. The same goes for the rooms, where minimalism, warmth and tranquillity are key.
Okura is a big hotel with no less than 300 rooms, divided into three categories. The superior and executive rooms range from 28 to 43 square meter, Junior suites from 34 up to 50 square meter, and Suites from 60 to 485 square meter. The Imperial Suite is one of Europe’s most prestigious suites and the largest in the Benelux with 485 square meter divided over 2 storeys. It even has its own private cinema!
Important assets of Hotel Okura include meeting and conference facilities from two up to 2500 guests and the Nagomi Spa & Health center with several treatment rooms, fitness center, indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and several sauna’s. In the basement of the hotel, there is a parking for the guests and an impressive cookery studio for cooking sessions and wine tastings.
Indeed, gastronomy is extremely important at the Okura Amsterdam. The hotel counts no less than four Michelin stars divided over three of its four restaurants. Part of an Asian hotel chain, Okura Amsterdam features two Japanese restaurants that are both holding one Michelin star: Teppanyaki Restaurant Sazanka and Yamazato Restaurant. In these restaurants, Chef Tomikawa offers a true Japanese experience executed with extreme precision and skill. At the top floor of Hotel Okura, you will discover one of the absolute top restaurants of The Netherlands: Ciel Bleu. At this two Michelin starred restaurant, Executive Chef Onno Kokmeijer and his Kitchen Chef Arjan Speelman created an elegant and luxurious dining experience that will impress even the most experienced diners. For more information about these three great restaurants, please consult our restaurant section. On the ground floor of the hotel, Restaurant Serre offers more casual but very qualitative meals in a modern dining room or on the cosy terrace.
For those thirsty, the Lobby bar has a drink menu with more than 60 cocktails. However, the Twenty Third Bar, located on the 23th floor just next to Clie Bleu, steals the show with its modern design, breath-taking views and a superb cocktail and Champagne selection.
It is easy to understand why Hotel Okura is one of the most popular and famous hotels of The Netherlands. Inspired by Japanese elegance, this hotel offers spacious and cosy rooms, impressive business facilities, a relaxing spa and health centre and a broad and excellent gastronomy offer. Impressive in its diversity.
