The hotel was founded as a farmhouse in 1979 and extended several times upgrading the farmhouse into a true paradise. Paula Volgger knows how to serve a true sense of hospitality. In addition, eight siblings of the family work together to ensure that your holidays are an unforgettable experience. During summer, Plunhof is the perfect centre for hiking, mountain biking and various Alpine tours. During winter, you will enjoy cross-country skiing, Nordic Walking, biathlon or downhill skiing. Cooking lessons and wine tastings are also offered throughout the year.
The intimate and friendly atmosphere is certainly unique and complemented with the very comfortable rooms. The hotel has 67 rooms and suites, which all have the necessary accessories and are named after Volgger family members and grandchildren. The rooms have a traditional Alpine design with carpeted or parquet floors and wooden furniture. They all offer balconies with views of the surrounding mountains. The spacious rooms with local wood and natural materials invite to relax in a comfortable, homely atmosphere.
The 2,250 square metres Spa Minera with indoor swimming pool offers wellness above and below the surface. The award winning Spa was built in 2014 and impresses with a design in ‘mine’ themes. With the exclusive spa treatments, you can immerse yourself in a world of balance and harmony. Master stonemasons, steeped in the craft traditions of the Alto Adige region, have expertly crafted ancient stones from the excavation. The Kneipp baths, and the water and ice fountains, too, are in local stone. For the steam bath and the saline pool, local craftsmen used silver quartzite, a stone found only in the Alto Adige region. The wellness part is adorned by local gneiss, a mineral rock with distinctive silvery reflections. For your comfort a series of relaxation lounges are stylishly furnished.
Head Chefs Peter and Egon Volgger serve a gourmet cuisine with Tirolean, Italian & Mediterranean influences. The Hotel restaurant has four wood-panelled Stuben and friendly hospitality is key in Plunhof’s culinary experience. On the choice menu you will find fully flavoured dishes with respect for the main product, like veal steak with a charcoal crust served with a mushroom and potato dumpling and seasonal vegetables. Sometimes in the week the Volgger family sets up a big buffet in the lobby for all guests like dessert buffets, seafood buffets or appetiser buffets. When the weather permits, a mountain barbecue will be organised. Wine lovers can enjoy a visit to the Bacchus wine cellar with over 600 references. Guests that opt for a fascinating ‘krautewanderung’, a herb foraging tour, will be offered to stop at the 400 years old farmhouse that also belongs to the family. Paula Volgger still keeps the history alive by serving in this unique old house dishes like original ‘gerstensuppe’ and Tirolean ‘blattln mit sauerkraut’.
