The Desert Grace
Namib Desert, Namibia
The Desert Grace is luxurious desert lodge located in the Namib region in Namibia. “The Namib” means “vast place” and that is indeed a good description of this amazing region. The Namib is a famous coastal desert of Khoekhoegowab origin. In total, the area spans more than 2,000 kilometres along the Atlantic coasts of South Africa, Angola, and Namibia.
The Namib Desert is famous as the oldest desert in the world (about 43 million years old), and for its raw, pure and sheer beauty. Its present form dates back to about 2 million years ago. Today, it is an immense area of moving dunes and gravel plains of all shapes and sizes. It is one of the planet’s most extreme wildernesses, which hides plenty of wonders of nature. Located within the Gondwana Namib Park that borders the Namib Sand Sea, one can discover the Desert Grace. The lodge is close enough to the famous Sossusvlei for day trips, but far enough for a secluded couple of days in the desert, in harmony with nature.
The Desert Grace opened its doors in 2018 and boasts 24 rooms. At the centre of the property, there is a beautiful round water feature with a fire pit in its core, crowned by arches of wood. It represents the four elements of fire, earth, water and air. Next to this water feature, guests can discover the spacious restaurant on one side and the lounge and bar on the other side. The atmosphere and design are what truly makes the Desert Grace stands out. It is elegant, warm and sophisticated at the same time. Bright colours are combined with leather sofas, traditional fabrics and luxurious accessories. It really is a beautiful place. The property is part of The Gondwana Collection Namibia, which combines hospitality with nature conservation and social commitment in a sustainable manner. The lodge is situated 60 km north of Sesriem on the C19.
Rooms And Suites
The Desert Grace features twenty-four rooms that are doted around the main area buildings. Twelve rooms are positioned to the south and twelve to the north. All are boasting incredible views on the dune landscape. Inside the rooms, dusky pink colours and soft luxurious touches create a stylish and very cosy interior. Floor to ceiling windows provide excellent views on the surrounding dessert. Bathrooms are luxurious and the design accessories give the rooms a homey atmosphere. Each of the rooms features a private terrace with plunge pool, the perfect spot to enjoy a drink while the sun sets in the Namibian desert.
Hotel Assets And Experiences
he lodge itself is so beautiful that it is tempting to stay around, but the surrounding desert hides so many treasures that it is a must to go out as well. Guests can participate in guided dune drives or unguided walking trails to discover the fossilised dunes, the red dunes and the many other wonders of the Namib Desert. Guided morning/afternoon E-bike excursions are another great way to explore the beautiful Namib and its inhabitants. The guided Scorpion Night Walk is recommended for those that want to find out more about these little stingy desert creatures. The Sossusvlei Excursion is a guided half-day excursion to the highest dunes on Earth at Sossusvlei.
Gastronomy
Excellent meals are served at the restaurant and the bar area is a stunningly beautiful place where one can mingle with other guests while sipping on greatly mixed drinks.
Nice touches such as a pink fridge stocked with cold drinks in the middle of the desert or a pink picture frame to take your perfect desert shot are dotted around the property.
Why Go?
The Desert Grace is a place to treat yourself to a unique, elegant and luxurious desert experience. All thoughtfully designed, the cosy rooms blend in with the Namib Desert and are amazingly beautiful. Sipping from a Pink gin from your own private plunge-pool is indeed a unique way to discover the Namibian desert – with and an extra touch of grace!
Transport In Namibia
A trip through Namibia is one of the world’s most beautiful and exciting road trips. Only a small part of the roads are paved and most are gravel roads (mostly with quite some bumps and rocky/sandy parts). It is therefore highly recommended to rent a solid 4W4 vehicle. We did, and didn’t regret that choice for a second. We rented our car at Nambia2Go, powered by Gondwana, one of the most reliable renting companies in the country. The service was excellent, from the pick-up to the drop-off at the airport, and our Toyota 4×4 Fortuner was very spacious, fitted for all Namibian roads, and a true pleasure to drive with.
